Angry OXM Demo Disk Doesn't Work!

This is the second demo disk I have gotten along with a newstand copy of Official Xbox Magazine that failed to work. Very frustrating. Anyone else had to order a replacement?

The most recent OXM worked fine except for the video portion of the Soul Caliber 2 demo...which happened to be the only one I was excited to play!

I'm not going to return it, personally...I'll just wait to get the game...I know it's going to rock anyway

I know I can get the replacement. It’s just a drag, that’s all. If I spend extra to buy the magazine by the issue rather than via subscription, I prefer to get instant gratification, y’know what I mean?

Yeah, you should expect a disc to work especially since you paid much more for it. How much did the magazine cost btw?

    I think about $7.99 plus tax. I don’t keep non-business receipts, though, so I can’t be 100% certain.

Try to put it back several times, maybe it will work. Or you can always try the boiling method.

    Shocked

Are you folks pulling my leg about the boiling thing, or is that for real? I suppose it might melt or soften the plastic just enough to make it pliable so that the surface can be re-straightened.

I’ll try it—what the heck. What’s the worst that could happen?

WARNING, DO NO "RE-STRAIGHTEN IT" All the boiling does is take off a thin layer so that it plays better. Follow instructions that were on another thread.

The same thing happened to me with my Soul Calibur 2 demo, and after about ten minutes of cursing the name of OXM I cleaned the disc about ten times with a DVD doc and it worked......does the boiling method work?

    Default It Works!

Yes, boiling the CD did actually work! I’ll be darned. I guess there’s a patina or film on the surface of the disk that is removed when you boil the disc in water.

Anyway, the demo disk works. Otogi is pretty dull, and I’m not a football fan, but Soul Calibur II is fantastic! A really authentic arcade feel and lots of variety (at least in the full version, I imagine). I don’t know if I’ll actually buy it (there are some many upcoming titles I want, like Star Wars: Jedi Academy and ESPN Basketball 2004, that I’m not sure my videogame budget can justify the purchase. But it looks like it would be fun, especially with a friend.
