    Default Xbox acting strange??

Just now I was playing Manhunt and I got a DDE so I had to restart the xbox. When it restarted, I got a new opening animation where the word XBOX explodes, with new sounds and everything. Then after that I got a screen saying "This is an Xbox Game Disc. Please insert it into the Xbox" and it was repeated in a couple different languages. I have seen a similar screen saying the Xbox needs repair I think, but it goes away after I turn it off. Anyone ever see this screen, if so, why is it happening?

I've seen this screen before but not on my Xbox. When you put Xbox discs in a DVD player or DVD-ROM it shows this. Do you have a DVD receiver plugged into a controller port? Maybe the Xbox is acting like a normal DVD player for some reason if you do.

It'll give you Error Code 13(I think) about repairs if your disk is too scratched to read the main program files, but not scratched enough for the xbox to not recognize it. Smudges and prints can cause this too, and sometimes just the crappyness of xbox dvd's will mess it up. If its loading like a dvd player would load it, maybe something shorted out in the motherboard.

    Call 1-800-4MY-XBOX
They might make you defrag your hard drive.
They might make you send it in.

Either way, a good cleaning with pressurized air, and a DVD lense cleaner first. See what happens. If it's still messed up, give Bill Gates a call at that number up there.

I had received that screen too, my xbox wasn´t reading all my games so i used a lens cleaner dvd and after that i don´t have any problems.

I called the 1800 myxbox but they didnt want to give me info on how to solve my problem, they just told me they charge me to repair it if i dont have warranty.

Well if it becomes a common problem I'll call, but it has only happened once so far, so it really isn't a big deal.

Yeah. Mine just says DIrty Disc Error. Darn thing.
I'd be much happier jumping on the De-frag of the hard drive or sending it to Microsoft if mine said some wierd stuff like that!

I had this happen a few times on my original Xbox (thomson drive) as well. Basically, the game disc thought it was being put into a PC or DVD player and not into the Xbox. Like trabucles, I'd use a lens cleaner and a disc cleaner and it would boot right up. It's probably just a dust thing.

FWIW - Here is a link to a thread with some pictures to help you figure out what drive you have.

Well yeah, if you have a thompson drive that could be a very good indication it's on the way to hell. If you bought your Xbox when it came out, you have one. If you are not sure, consult that link above.
Chances are, if you have a thompson, you're warranty is gone too by now, unless you paid to extend it, or bought a store warranty.
If you're warranty is gone, and you want to salvage your Xbox and you don't mind the thought of opening your Xbox, I have a link around here to an ebay reseller who has the laser head device for 15 bucks. All you do is swap the laser and that's it.
Just make sure that's your last resort and you:
    A, don't have a warranty anymore
B, understand you could completely ruin your Xbox
C, have some basic elementary skills.. (Read, know how to use a screwdriver)
    D, have balls of steel.

My first run Xbox just took a dive, and I had considered replacing the laser myself. From what I understand, it's not too big of a deal. But at the same time, I was provided a Halo Edition Xbox, so I put off that plan.
