I seriously doubt they will look like this next gen. Plus, I seriously doubt EA will be the ones pushing the hardware to its limits. But here's hoping!

I don't see why next-gen games are so difficult to believe that they won't look like this. Look at the graphical update from N64 to Gamecube.
Resident Evil Zero (64)
Resident Evil Zero (Cube)
That's a pretty massive jump right there. So I don't see how that big of a jump seems so impossible. Comming from EA though, I don't expect to see these kinds of titles from them...
Agreed. possible? no question. From EA? Bout doubt it. They aren't known for really pushing graphical boundaries into the excellent or extraordinary but rather in the average to good range.
Those are some pretty pictures.. could you imagine playing a game that looked like that... wow! It'd would cause a visual orgasim.
And that is a very impressive graphical jump between those two RE games.
not gonna happen. not from EA.
I used to post here a lot.
Again, unless its INGAME, who cares what screens they send us?

those pics look way cool
Ahem
Those are all ingame screens from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Which can be considered a next gen game.
You may also wish to check out Unreal 3.
Once again, all images posted by MerimacHamwich were INGAME

I guess I can only bet that Halo 3 is going rock some ass.
This game will be amazing graphically. I almost **** my pants when I saw a video of the engine, and I'm sure it will look better in the actual release.Originally Posted by MerimacHamwich

the images merimac posted are for pc only.
There's a video up on IGN supposedly showcasing what an Xbox 2 game 'should' look like. If the next gen systems can do this kinda stuff... Ever since I saw the first FMV when I busted out my PS1 for the first time, I was wonder when we'd get to play games that look 'that good'. I guess we might see where those improvments stand come next year if all the hub bub doesn't turn out to be a big bag of bull...

it's gonna happen sooner or later. i suspect the jump in graphic ability for games on the next consoles will not seem quite as large as the leap from n64 to xbox, but there are some factors that could make it happen. processor power is obviously abundant now, and the graphics chips continue to make leaps forward. the machines we'll play on will be more powerful, but so will the machines these games' graphics and artwork are done on. add in the cheaper and more ready supply of hdtvs, which will make the work worth looking at. it could combine for some fmv level gameplay. i hope that's the case. i can't wait until ff games play like their fmv looks. or until whatever racing game that ea pic is from looks just like that in gameplay. i just hope it happens before my hand/eye coordination completely disappears.

In theory, won't it get to a point where you can't improve graphical power because the next step up is reality?

Being designed for hardware that will be in the next gen consoles. It is a good representation of what the next gen could/should be able to do.Originally Posted by No Fear 23
