I seriously doubt they will look like this next gen. Plus, I seriously doubt EA will be the ones pushing the hardware to its limits. But here's hoping!

I don't see why next-gen games are so difficult to believe that they won't look like this. Look at the graphical update from N64 to Gamecube.
Resident Evil Zero (64)
Resident Evil Zero (Cube)
That's a pretty massive jump right there. So I don't see how that big of a jump seems so impossible. Comming from EA though, I don't expect to see these kinds of titles from them...
Agreed. possible? no question. From EA? Bout doubt it. They aren't known for really pushing graphical boundaries into the excellent or extraordinary but rather in the average to good range.
if they do have graphics like this, i can see it now...the replays will look great! but the actual gameplay probably wont (at least with madden)Originally Posted by mrmp3

Those are some pretty pictures.. could you imagine playing a game that looked like that... wow! It'd would cause a visual orgasim.
And that is a very impressive graphical jump between those two RE games.
not gonna happen. not from EA.
I used to post here a lot.
Again, unless its INGAME, who cares what screens they send us?

those pics look way cool
Ahem
Those are all ingame screens from The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. Which can be considered a next gen game.
You may also wish to check out Unreal 3.
Once again, all images posted by MerimacHamwich were INGAME

This game will be amazing graphically. I almost **** my pants when I saw a video of the engine, and I'm sure it will look better in the actual release.Originally Posted by MerimacHamwich
Nah, either CG, or a vid/pic of the engine.... I mean gameplay ingame, cause the two are quite different.Originally Posted by MerimacHamwich

The only difference between what is in those pictures, and what will be on the screen when they are released 2-3 years from now, is a HUD. In the case of Unreal 3, you can add in a nice lush environment and some arms holding a weapon or two.Originally Posted by Variation
Those look amazing, but just think, each game with that quality of graphics is going to take time to make.
Each level in a game, each character, is a piece of artwork that takes time to create. I can't imagine how long it's going to take to create each game. Think about Bungie making a game that's 3 or 4 times better than Halo 2. I could just be ignorant when it comes to developing time, but it seems like It'd take a hell of a lot of time to get it all in working order.
Especially another Elder Scrolls, I think it was mentioned in a review that the new world would be smaller than Morrowind, so maybe that's what we'll see of most games? More detail, less content. Hopefully not, but we'll see.

You make a valid point about graphics quality/content. Although the next gen consoles are going to be capable of these kinds of graphics, most titles will not be that beautiful. Content is extremely important. If the player can beat it in a week with an average amount of play, and not feel satisfied, they can return it to the store, trade it in, or sell it to a friend, all three which cause the publisher/developer to loose money.Originally Posted by shrew king
I'd expect that major franchises will reach those heights quite easily. Unreal is a major franchise, and Elder Scrolls is also quite large, giving them the time to develop their games to the fullest.
I doubt EA will reach that kind of quality for in-game play. The quality of the graphics will be quite the step up, but the above screenshots are pre-rendered images. If a company wants to impress us, release a video rendered in real time. Thats the only way to make a believer out of me.
I've said it before, but expect there to be a big FPS launched with the XBox 2, showcasing what it's capable of. Oh, and my bet goes on Rare to develop it. You heard me. No Halo 3 on launch. Just not logically possible.
I guess I can only bet that Halo 3 is going rock some ass.
Whisper is just trying to figure out how to pick the magic mushrooms!
the images merimac posted are for pc only.
Being designed for hardware that will be in the next gen consoles. It is a good representation of what the next gen could/should be able to do.Originally Posted by No Fear 23
