    Question Conflict Desert Storm

    Hi all,
I would like to ask your opinion as to how much importance you will attach to the ability within the game to be able to play as either delta force or sas units?
Having carried out a similar poll amongst my pals in the uk I would be gratefull to here your views along with any other suggestions for the game which I will discuss with the developers
    thanks in advance.

    Default New video is here

This video is awesome and a UK magazine did a 6 page preview on the game in which they said the AI is the best yet and it works

Anyway for 3 video downloads go here but the 14.8 meg one is the best and try not to shoot the goat in the night vision bit

    Post mmmmm.......

Yes, I think being able to play as Delt Force would be pretty important to the sucess of the game in the USA.

Also I think that you should have a menu screen similar to that found on the Rainbow Six games in which the player can choose from a selection of uniform types and weaponry. Rainbows menus should be the exemplar that all other games base their designs on, simple but so effective.. and graphically pretty to look at.

I am a Beta tester for Codemasters upcoming Project IGI:2 and I will tell you what I have pretty much told them. Gamers like freedom in their enviornment,,, they like freedom to chose from an assortment of uniforms and supplies,, they like to personalize their player, i.e. grunt names, uniform patches, specialization, or other things of that nature.

Gamers hate a walk through,,,, meaning that there is basically only one or two ways to go through a level and the occurances in the levels are repetative and triggered. Maps need to be big and non-restrictive.... objectives should be clear and attainable by various approaches.

Look at the Delta Force series,, not their newest release,, look at DF1 and DF2.... some of those maps were huge,,, a player sould choose to be an assaulter and run right into the thick of combat, or take a surgical approach and stay back and snipe,, I completed ever level of those games with a Beretta .50 cal. and a knife.... it takes a lot longer but the satisfaction was enormous because I could complete the missions my way.

Watched the video at the above link,,, the game looks tasty, very nice graphics and explosions. But I am disapointed. Where is the First Person Shooter that I was looking forward to?

I was so happy that the Dessert Storm conflict would finally make its way from flight sims to the First Person realm. I know that it goes into a FPS perspective upon the use of a scope from a rifle or a rocket launcher but that is not enough. I hope that you guys can render a hand or two,,, the gun models... please someone tell these developers that hardcore FPS lovers will scoff at the notion of playing from a Tomb Raider perspective... modeling this view is easy work, please make the addition, I beg you.

Another annoyance I can tell you that you will face is the repitiion of charter dialog. As I said I watched the video and I noticed it right off the bat,,, ,the characters have that recoreded respose to actions over and over,,,,remember the Xbox plays dual layered DVD's and it has a hard-drive, please do not skimp,,, don't bring it to us before it to market until it is right.... this is not a PC game we do not want patches.

The concept is solid and exciting, the game looks great so far,,, I am salivating. Give us (the players) flexibility and freedom,,,,, give us a First Person Persective option through out the game, and make sure we got multiplayer and YOU WILL HAVE A HUGE HIT.

Apologies xbm,I stupidly used the origional draft title, which was then changed to reflect the publishers intension to create an ongoing series/franchise within the genre.(it was also put to me by an unrul`y colleague that it was so the knife could be used in the title!)

    Hi Phreeky,
I think the game will be released end of may / mid june subject to the expected US distribution deal yet to be confirmed.
Re beta testing I will ask, but I belive the game is in its final pre release stage, but as you say if you don`t ask you don`t get! and it shouldn`t be forgotten that SCI intends to create a series of games based on historic world wide conflicts, so something may be possible for the future.
On the subject of taking the Conflict brand further I would like to know if you (or any other board members) have any suggestions of historic Conflicts that you think would translate into a good game? to kick the list of I would like to see a game based on the special forces role in Aghanistahn as the next up.
Phreek would you please keep me posted as and when CDS newsflow comes out in the US games press and web sites and I will keep you posted as requested.
Xboxed I assume you are based in the UK?

    Default Future Conflicts

Does anyone have any opinions on the possibility of games companies using the anti terrorist campaign and the subsequent role played by US and UK special forces in Afghanistan as the setting for a future game.
If so would you please post.

    Wink Sounds good

I like the idea of anti-terrorist campaigns.... I mean it would be true to life. I also think that it would be important to make operational groups smaller for such missions.

I would hope that developers would shy away from Counter Strike like objectives, i.e. disarm the bomb, save the hostage, rescue the V.I.P.. These scenerios, while they have been fun played, are not at home in a "in country" anti-terror campaign.

I think there would be some cool opportunties to laser designate some targets, gather recon on stealthy missions, plant explosive charges and operate under cover of darkness. ***It would be appreciated if they would add a lot of sniping fun in just for me***

Anyhoo..... that is all for now,,,, BTW I go some pics from IGI:2 looking good..... I hope to have a beta demo soon..... I have been asking about the possibility of bringing the title to the Xbox, but Codemasters and Innerloop have not given me any positive feedback that would lead me to believe that this would be a possibility.... we will have to wait and see.... I like IGI because of the first person perspective and the stealthy game play, it is hard to go gun-ho and survive.

    Phreeky,
thanks for your views once again I will pass them on!.
with regard to laser designation for air strikes ,did you know this feature is included in CDStorm (Q do you know which other combat sims have this feature?)
Allso you may be pleased to find that as well as calling air strikes I believe there is an option to use cruise missiles!!!
Lastly any views on the inevitable media reaction to a game based around the events after 9.11.(both gaming and general press)

SCI Have announced that they have been exclusivley collaborating with former SAS 22 squadron NCO Cameron Spence who has been advising on the "logistics and realism" of the fothcoming game.
I belive Sgt Spence has served in the Gulf,N Ireland,Bosnia and Afghanisthan.I have also been told he will be working on future titles in the "Conflict" series.
Phreeky if you go to nvidia.co.uk you will find it stated that your weapons choice ranges from a knife up to a cruise missile!!!
SCI also stated that Conflict Desert Storm is due for release in june 2002.
