    Default DVD Playback

I recently purchased an X Box along with the DVD movie playback kit. A good portion of my DVD's will not play properly (Shrek and Atlantis among them). The picture will fade out and then begin to roll. Has anyone else had this problem? Thnx.

Interesting....how do you have it setup? Just X-Box connected to TV? Or is there a VCR in the loop somewhere?

The X Box is hooked up through my VCR. Could this cause some of my DVDs to skip?

I took the VCR out of the loop and they all work fine. Thanks DBXNY.

ya, all DVD players are designed to act stupid if there is a VCR in between it and the TV, it's to prevent people from recording the DVDs

Not skip, but the picture will and can black out or otherwise become distorted. The DVDs you were experiencing the problem with were designed to trigger the X-Box to output Macrovision along with the signal. Macrovision is a copyright protection scheme. For DVD playback, you can't hook the X-Box, nor any standalone DVD player for that matter (unless it has been hacked to be macrovision-free) through a VCR.

    Enjoy!

Yep just get you a RF adapter for the Xbox and it will take care of that problem for you.

Yeah, its macrovision so you won't record the dvds. Pretty lame. Same thing happens when I play a dvd on my xbox and plug it into my TV/VCR combo.
