Configuring my network

Hi, I'd like to start with explaining my situation here. I've been using X-box live for quite some time now, and want to continue, though the problem here is that I've changed room to pretty far away from the router. I have one network cable going in the walls to this room. But I need two for both my X-box (360) and my PC. I tried sharing connection through my PC but it didn't work at all. It worked when I had the X-box and the PC connected to the router. So now I wonder if I could buy a switch in this new room to connect my PC and X-box in. Then connect the switch to the router and make it work out? I'll attach a picture of how I'll set it if it works with the switch. Also I would be happy to recieve advide and thoughts how you would do or stuff like that. Notice I am pretty much an idiot when it comes to networking and computer and all other like it.
Also excuse my poor English, I hope I made myself understood.

Looking at the image you made, it looks like you have two computers.

If you only have one, then I would suggest buying something like this. Use this router to connect from the first router, then use two separate network cables, one to the xbox, and one to the computer.

But would it work to connect a computer along with router2 in the first router? Because my parents have a computer upstairs also which they need internet connection on.

But also, what is the difference between a switch and a router since you changed the switch to "2nd router" in the picture.

If it was me, I would place the router in the same room with the Xbox and computer of yours. Then run wire to the other computer.

That's what I have done anyways. It's fairly easy to hide the wire.

Very simple here my friend, from the description of the problem it appears all you need is a Hub(Switch). You should be able to purchase a 5-Port workgroup hub(Switch) from a best buy for around $25-30$.

Do not confuse the network by adding another router and another gateway to the network. This will only make it more difficult for you to troubleshoot future problems.

So this is the plan, take the network cable that is running from your modem(DSL or cable) to your current router's internet(WAN) port. Plug the cable that runs to the new room to either of the 1-5 ports on the router. Install new hub(Switch) at the opposite end of that cable in the new room. Now you should be able to plug in up to 4 devices on the new hub.(you essentially turn one cable into 4 ports) 1 for your XBOX and one for your laptop.

Everything should work fine now.
