    Default nlindenj's custom plate #1

here is my first custom plate (so please be gentle)

its the death star on a starfield

for my first plate i wanted to keep it simple (incase it went wrong so i could start again)

started with a brushed silver faceplate, sanded it with a fine sand paper (thanks to the tutorials), sprayed flat black then added the stars using the toothbrush spray method (thanks for the advice) then 3 coats of clear varnish. i had the micro machines death star hanging around for ages. i sanded one side of it to flatten it and test fit, it seemed to be fine then stuck it down

this pic is to show how far it sticks out

put it on my 360 and it works a treat, pushing the death star to turn on the 360 is fun, the only problem is that you cant see any of the lights, but you can't have everything

after the death star turned out fine i wanted to have another go and i came up with this

    darth vader

started with a cream faceplate, picked up for £4 ($8) removed the ir sensor, sanded down, painted flat black and one coat of clear

the word 'vader' is a vinyl sticker. i applied it, then cut the sticker so the memory slots still would be used. then 2 more coats of clear

i have all sort of star wars stuff, this small bust of vader seemed to fit the bill nicely attached it with small black rods

    i haven't attached it to the 360 but i can't wait

    look out for more soon

i hope you guys like it

I have a DS faceplate that I started and then abandoned. It's the ROTJ DS from MicroMachines. I was going to put gree fiber optics through it so it would light up and stuff, and I eventually just moved on to something else.

thats cool but the second thread is useless just combine the two custom threads of yours and ask spacey to use his genie magic to delete one to keep the forums clean and tidy.

That was the preorder bonus for the PC game at EB Games isn't it? (the Death Star)

perhaps if you drilled a small hole on the laser (?) of the death star, then the green light from the xbox power button will show through, or at least enough so that you can tell its on...not that the fact that the 360 sounds like a 747 taking off didnt give it away already.

I tried that with one of mine. Too hard because the light on the DS is up higher and not straight across from the power button. I even got fiber optics and finally said screw it and moved on.
