Hey guys, I ran a speed test @ www.dslreports.com and the results said this:

* Speed 1514(down)/132(up) kbps **
(At least 30 times faster than a 56k modem)
Logged result.



Is that good? All I know is that 132 is a lot smaller than 1514!
Help me figure this out...I know it says 30x faster than a 56k but is my connection speed good for having cable?

well with 1514 kilobits of download speed you are approximatly looking at 189.25 kilobytes. And with 132 kilobits of upload speed you are looking at approximatly looking at 16.5 kilobytes of upload speed. kilobytes are usually what you see when you download something off the internet and the test gave you results in kilobits, so i help this info helps you understand more about your connection speed.

..but it is not correct because my real speed is
(128 kbps up) and (3600 kbps down)
i know this for a fact because i have normal download speed of
450 kilobytes per second. from some australian servers

I use www.bandwidthplace.com, and it seems a bit more accurate. Although, I guess, that can't be easily be proven, I like it better for testing purposes. Good link though, thanks.

When talking about bits and bytes kilo means 1024 and mega means 1024 kilobits or bytes.

dslreports suck, the speed varies all the time when u test it, go to http://www.computers4sure.com//speed.asp i use it all the time

just remember that
8bits = 1 byte
1024bytes =1mb
1024mb = 1 gb
1024gig = 1tb
1024 tb = 1gp
and i don't know from there on

So are most of you guys on Cable modems then? I am on DSL and am only getting a 314 down/ 211 up. How are you guys getting that fast of speed? Is there something wrong with my connection?

the difference in cable and dsl is that with dsl you are always garrented that speed and with cable your bandwith is shared by everyone on that line.

check with your isp, they probly capped your speed cause of the monthly plan u selected. i have cable and mine is capped at 1 megabit download (130k/s) and 512 kilobit upload (55k/s)
