Does anyone know how to check what type of xbox dvd drive i have?
Press the eject button. If the hole in the middle is shaped like a U you have a Thompson drive. If its shaped like a lightbulb you have a Philips. If there is one big hole and three little holes its a Samsung. Im pretty sure thats it but if anyone else is 100% sure correct me.

ive got a thompson and it is a lanch box and i play GTA fine
I also have a "launch box" and I play ANY game w/o problems. You can actaully check the date of when ur xbox was made, look under ur box for a surprise!.. lol

Does the type of drive relate to when it was made? i have the philips drive but my manfuture data says 9/20/03.
I think you can play GTA 3 without any problems.

Yea your right GTA works fine, i dunno i just seen people saying how tomson drives dont work well with GTA and morrowind... but i guess they are wronge : / im playing right now

I got a Thompson drive and Morrowind is kicking my butt on lockups. I read somewhere where I can get a Samsung drive and they work alot better with double layered disks, is that true? If so, where can I get one of those drives?
