Overall: This game has to be the best super hero game out there right now. The Hulk has always gotten the short end of the stick when it comes to video games, and I thought it would happen again when I saw that Universal Interactive was working on the game (especially after flops like the Lord of the Rings Fellowship games). After an hour of play all of my doubts were long gone and I was having the most fun that I had ever had with a super hero game. If you are a Hulk fan you don't need to read this review, hurry and buy this game, everyone else read the review and then rent the game. I will admit that the game isn't perfect and people will disagree with my score, but for a Hulk fan it couldn't get any better.
Gameplay: If you can't control this game, you can't play video games. This is the easiest game to pick up and play from the get go. All of the battle controls are easy to learn and there is enough variation in attack so the game never gets boring. The only problem I ever encountered was the camera, but the camera isn't so bad that the game isn't playable.
Graphics: Wow... The graphics are simply astounding. The form of cell shading used makes this game look like a comic book come to life. Everything was made with vivid colors and plenty of detail. The character models are simply astounding to look at because of the amount of detail each one has. Another great thing about the graphics is if you see something hanging from a wall, more likely than not you will be able to knock it down and use it as a weapon. I have never seen that much environment interaction in a game before. The only thing that keeps the graphics from a perfect score is the fact that many of the environments look the same. The only level that doesn't look like another level is the introduction level in the desert. If it weren't for the reuse of so many backgrounds, the graphics would've been perfect.
Sound: This is the weakest aspect of the game and it still isn't too bad. The problem with the sound is the fact that everything sounds alike and the background music never changes. It really starts to annoy you after about 2 hours of play and I had to turn off the sound during gameplay parts. The reason the sound got a score higher than a 4 is because of the voice acting. Eric Bana, the actor who plays Bruce Banner in the movie, reprises his role and does a fairly good job. All of the other voice actors did a fairly decent job, aside from the soldier banter that wears thin through out the game.
Overall: Fun game while it lasts, but replay value is an absolute zero. It's really a shame so many games these days have no replayability. While it lasts, its a blast being the Hulk and it really gives you the feel of it. Bruce Banner missions are boring and either to easy or to hard. When your playing the Hulk, you can destroy everything and anyone - which makes the game a little to easy even on the harder levels. The visuals are mediocre, and you don't really notice it's cel-shaded which is either a good thing or a bad thing for some people. The plot is sort of interesting but not overly so. Overall, this game is mediocre+. Gameplay: Hulk missions are PURE ACTION and they're very fun, you can destroy nearly everything on the level. You can perform different moves, such as a thunder clap which stuns your opponents or a ground slam in which the Hulk slams his foot into the ground knocking over all of the opponents surrounding him. The Bruce Banner missions are very few, but even those are annoying and uncomfortable. They're boring and not very challenging mostly, and those who are - are overly challenging and hard. The AI is ok, but nothing more. So - a 4.0 because of the Bruce Banner missions. Graphics: Nothing very special nor revolutionary, but it gets the feel of the game. The cel-shaded parts are only visible in the cutscenes and the rest seem like 3D - which isn't bad but for cel-shaded fans don't expect too much. Sound: The music is only for background and you barely hear it and it doesn't matter if you do. It doesnt't add anything to the game or mood. Sound effects are good especially when you fling the guards off the roof. Yum! Suggestions: Add replay value, better graphics and remove all the Bruce missions! Yuch!
Overall: Fun game, right from the get go. You start out playing as our lovable green guy. Now for me, this game has quite a bit of appeal, cause I used to love the Hulk when I was just a kid. There are some problems with the game that, however, will make you want to transform in to the Hulk yourself. Gameplay: Gameplay is fun. Right from the beginning. You play as both the Hulk on some missions and as Bruce Banner on some. Controls are easy to pickup on and there are over 40 different moves that you can perform as the Hulk. Almost everything, and I do mean EVERYTHING, can be destroyed, smashed, trashed and mangled. Walls, ceilings, floors, pipes, tanks, telephone poles, metal power transformers. You name it. There is also hidden content within the game that makes it that much more interesting. Now I will admit that the respawn of the "gamma dogs" really get's annoying (one of the things that makes my anger level go up and takes me that much closer to turning into the Hulk myself).
Now another problem is when you are playing Bruce, he just doesn't seem to want to climb very easily. So be warned, this can lean to frustration again.
I did want to hear the Hulk talk, but as it turns out, our big green fellow is mute. However, there is a hidden universal input code which will unlock the grey hulk which does talk. Yipee!!! Graphics: Graphics are as good as any PeonS2 port can get, which for me is a letdown anytime I have to put up with it. To come from such great graphic games like Halo, Brute Force and Splinter Cell to games that are ported, it is a real shame. However, I must live with it and so I will. The cutscenes are pretty decent, but kinda cartoonish (which, don't get me wrong, is not bad, just different). My MAJOR complaint in this department is the lack of camera control.
Once again, PeonS2 rules the developers minds and they give us junk like the controls for Metal Gear. There is absolutely no way to move the camera unless you are holding down 1st person mode. At which point, you cannot move anyways, so it really does no good. Now this gets really frustrating when playing Bruce cause there are levels where you are in disguise but cannot be seen upclose by any of the personel. However, since you can't see anything but what the camera wants you to see, you have a VERY hard time telling exactly where the baddies are and where they are not. (This make Hulk MAD!)
I just wonder when these developers will get it into their heads that using both thumbsticks on a game is NOT a bad thing, but actually the PREFERRED thing. Ok. Off of my soap box. This game would have gotten a higher rating and a higher visual rating if there had been camera control. Sound: Sound is good on this game, just like most of the rest. Nothing which really stands out, but it gets the job done. Suggestions: Can anybody say "Camera control"? Nope. I didn't think so. I just wish that developers would wake up and at least give us the option of controlling the camera with the thumbstick. It would make the games that much better and more enjoyable. 'Nuff said.
Overall: Hulk in a standard movie tie in in the form of a 3rd person beat em up. Punch, Jump, lots of punching and smashing stuff. A few special moves here and there. Use Bruce Banner other times in espionage missions. Gameplay: After reviewing Wolverine on xbox, i thought that was scraping the bottom of the barrel, alas, Hulk's even simplier than that. The controls are pretty easy to get the hang of, but what ur supposed to be doing is SOOO boring its not worth while describing. Most of the time Hulk's on a specific track u can't deviate from, so exploring is totally out of the question. The enemies are stock standard soldiers, big ugly dogs, 1 tank and a few helicopter's. Punch each one enough and they all die. that simple. Graphics: Visuals are quite nice, nice big sprites and effects... the hulk looks good and moves fluently, and the cutscenes are intergrated well and look great. Sound: The sound was ok to, the hulks loud, all the weapons sound good, and things die with pleasing sound effects. No real complaints here either. Suggestions: Lucky its a movie tie in, and ull make ur money from fans of the movie.
Overall: Raaahhhhhh! Me must smash! This is the feeble-minded mentality I have when I'm playing "the Hulk". This game captures the essence and power of being the Hulk in a video gaming environment. Although the graphics are not so great, the gameplay action of smashing and destroying everthing in sight makes this a fun and enjoyable game for any Hulk fans out there. Gameplay: There are two gameplays - stealth and puzzling solving action as Bruce Banner, and smash and destroy everything thing in sight as the Hulk. I prefer the latter like everyone else. As the Hulk, you can beat up anyone mentally challenged enough to stand in the Hulk's way such as those puny human soldiers, the elephant size gamma dogs, and the mighty tanks. My favorite Hulk move is timing a missle launched from a tank and punching it back towards the tank. In this situation, I can truly say, "tanks". Graphics: Well, at least I know what the upcoming X-box game "Xlll" will look like. The Hulk uses the similar cell-shaded graphics which is an animation style of bringing a comic book artwork to life. This style looks great as a still photo, however it's not so effective being used in a video game, (especially when it's a Hulk video game!!)This type of animation has a sort of "shiny glare" which gives the character models a "water paint coloring effect". It looks like the characters are roughly colored, and it needs another layer of solid coloring to make the models stand out more. I guess this method of animation was cost efficient so the developers could easily port this game over to the other two gaming consoles and for the PC too without too much trouble. Sound: The sound is excellent. I love the smashing sound effects and also when the Hulk jumps and lands. Eric Bana also did a good job voicing Bruce Banner. Suggestions: You don't want to make me angry do you? Next time, make the graphics more like "Splinter Cell" or similar to how the Hulk looks like in the movie, or else...
Overall: You are the Hulk. You are tryig to save Betty and yourself from the Army and the Leader. Is there anything else that needs to be said? Gameplay: Nothing more than a simple beat and smash. As the hulk, do you really need more? The camera can screw you up sometimes, but not too much. Playing as Banner though is truly a chore and ruins the game. Graphics: Visually this game is cel-shaded and fairly impressive. Though there are better looking games out there, this one isn't too bad for the type of game it is. Sound: The sound is good, but it gets much better once you unlock the grey hulk. The difference is that Hulk will actually talk as he's beating people up. Very funny stuff! Suggestions: Have the grey hulk available at the outset and have more things for him to say.
Overall: Let me first say that the mixed reviews kept me from getting this game. I wasn't a fan of cell shading, and I wasn't a fan of the Hulk. That has all changed. I have been playing this game for the last three days and I love it. It can be a little, okay a lot repetitive but it has been a blast. It is perfect in it's design to mimic the comic books and the diverse gameplay was pretty well integrated. Overall, this is the best superhero game in recent memory. Gameplay: Hulk smash, Bruce sneaks. That's it. It is what the Hulk does so what else can be expected. I am surprised that Hulk smash so much of the environment. Even the stealth missions are decent, hell Bruce even gets to choke a few people himself. My favorite Hulk technique is the double body slam. That has got to hurt! Graphics: I think this is the strength of the title. It is a beautiful game, and the detsruction that the Hulk leaves is remarkably depicted. Every stomp is evident, every smash is shown when something is destroyed, you can tell something has been destroyed. Good job. Sound: The sounds of the game are outstanding. It sounds like the Hulk in every way. Again I look for if the sound is realistic enough to make me feel the game.I say thee yes. Suggestions: More intricate gameplay, more smashing options. I holla!!!
