Conker: Live and Reloaded Staff Review
"I can remember hearing about our furry little friend way back in the day, I remember seeing a box with this cute little squirrel on it, the game was Conkers Bad Fur Day. Didn’t sound that good, what do I need with some cutesy platformer for my N64, so I passed on by. A few weeks later a friend asked me if I had played it, I laughed and asked why, well it turns out I missed the boat on this one boys and girls, because after I played my buddies game I made my way back to the store and added this envelope pushing, genre bending foul mouthed squirrel to my permanent library."

Overall: The N64 single player with an all new multiplayer which was done very nice. It's basically two games in one, the multiplayer is more than just a multiplayer...its got a story.
Gameplay: The single player is added with the ending with is nice. A GREAT platformer that will make you laugh..and a great new class multiplayer.
Graphics: The visual are top-notch for the xbox. Just look at Conkers tail for god-sakes...You can tell they worked a lot on the graphics.
Sound: The songs are intact, though beeped out still are hilarous. Overall great sound effects and funny noises..I really can't complain.
Suggestions: Should of left the old multiplayer..just to give more variety..should of had downloadable maps.

Liquid Gears
Date reviewed: September 30, 2005.

Overall: This game owns. It may seem babyish with the look and all but it is very fun to play I think. The XBL gets annoying at times but it is still a lot of fun to come back to and play again. This game was done very well. There are some glitches online though which hurts the game and frustrates you and it doesn't appear this is being fixed so that's where this game loses points.
Gameplay: There is a solid campaign mode and the controls are easy enough for a 5 year old. There is still a lot of strategy involved online though with certain characters being able to defeat others easily. So, even though this is a run n gun game there is still some talent involved. It's good to play this game and not worry about ranks and everything involved with most games.
Graphics: The game has great color and nice environments. The characters look and move pretty funny at times and it makes the game that much more enjoyable to play. Online, the squirrels and teddies look totally different and even for each level a certain style for each character is used. So it's something different instead of the same old non stop. The cinematics are nothing special though so that kinda sucks but the levels are great looking.
Sound: I love the sound in this game. When you unlock potty mouth the characters have hilarious lines they say to themselves which just makes you laugh. The music and voices for the characters are all suited very well so this game is very enjoyable.

Overall: My BFD cartridge is probably partially melted in my N64 along with Goldeneye and WCW/NWO Revenge. Even though the framerate was horrible, there were a ton of options and the whole Nazi Tediz vs. the Squirrels was great.

So what turns into a sequel turns into a remake with tons of added content which turns into basically the same single player experience with a new multiplayer mode. That's the story of CLR. Slowly but surely turned less ambitious in its development cycle. I did have high expectations, mainly because of how much fun the original was but, iono I don't really like CLR. Especially with multiplayer. The 2 player split-screen doesn't even take up the whole screen and you can't even go online with 2 people on one console. No downloadable content or clans either. Sheesh, what a load of crap.
Gameplay: Obviously you got to seperate the single player and multiplayer. The multiplayer has a HUD and plays like a behind the shoulder third person shooter. The single player plays the same as the original which was just a platformer.

One thing about the single player is how much more has been bleeped out since the N64 version. The Great Mighty Poo song is censored to the point you probably don't know, unless you heard the original, what obscentities he is saying. Then there's the fact excluding the minor alterations at the beginning of the game, the single player experience is identical. That part really gets me especially seeing how much time they had to work on this. The blood and poo effects are equally unimpressive.

Now multiplayer. First thing I notcied, headshots rip off the whole head. In BFD, you could shoot off chunks, the 2 halves of the head and the lower jaw where you saw parts of the brain. Now, all you see is an unsatisfying red mercury shooting from the neck. Class based games are fun, but the fact it's your only choice for multiplayer seems like a step back from the N64 version. Yes it's good, but it just lacks customization.
Graphics: Excluding the very unimpressive poo and blood effects, kind of hard to argue anything else. The characters models are amazing, enviroments are beautifully details, lighting is excellent, the game just looks amazing, it's just a shame there really isn't anything great and new gameplay components to go with it.
Sound: Whatever they did, the voice acting sound like garbage compared to the N64 version. It truely sounds like a whole new person doing Conker's voice. The dialogue and sound effects are fine though. None of the guns, excluding maybe the rocket launcher, have a satisfying gun power noise to them. The Grunt automatic/semi/single gun sounds like a pea shooter, and his grenade launcher, though it does a ton of damage, isn't that great either. Could go down the whole list but you get my idea.
Suggestions: So no guest or other XBL user on one system, no downloadable content, no clans, a stripped down multiplayer and the same single player experience, count me out please. I haven't played this game 3 weeks after launch and have no desire to ever touch it again.

aka Silent-XBA
Date reviewed: August 14, 2005.

Overall: The same great single player game as on the N64 with an improved multi-player experience. Not for children, even though the curse words are bleeped out you can tell what they are saying as well as when you beat the game you get the curse words unlocked.
Gameplay: The single player game is the same as the N64 version which was a great game when it came out but it left a bit to be desired this time around. The addition of XBL to the multi-player game brings tons of replay value to this title, one of the best XBL titles.
Graphics: A big improvement over the N64 version, I still think it could have been better. Characters look great, but the environments for multi-player were a little small.
Sound: Nice voices, each character has there own unique voice and lines, however they repeat those lines a lot. Weapon and vehicle sounds, sound realistic.
Suggestions: Bring a new single player game to the next one!

Overall: I missed this one back on the N64, but it this one makes me want to go back and play the old one too. A feast for the eyes, and definitely not for kids...while some of the references show their age, it is an overall solid and fun experience.
Gameplay: While being a platformer at heart, the variety of things to do and a clever brand of inside joke humor, makes this one enjoyable, while short...online stuff is fairly varied, but if you have other online multiplayer shooters (i.e. Halo or Splinter Cell) this will provide a short distraction before going back to other games. The various parodies included are often good for a laugh too.
Graphics: The visuals are very well done...colorful environments, detailed characters and enemies make it great looking. The little things like water/sewage/blood dripping off Conker are nice and the different areas blend well while adding variety.
Sound: While some repetitive background musics and character noises are ok, the voice acting and comedic writing are very good...namely if you want to indulge your immature fart humor side of yourself.
Suggestions: Rare was a hot company back in later generations of consoles...hopefully they will make a comeback, since they tend to have unique and creative games with good stories. Hopefully we'll some more in the future on this or future systems.
