Overall: My niece gave me this gift. I expected to enjoy this game. I tried. My niece tried. it now sits in the back of the pile and is never played. Proof is in the pudding. Rent the game if you have to. Otherwise it is a waste of your money in my opinion.
Gameplay: Honestly, I got bored way too fast. I can not tell you how it ends because I never tried. Kicking and farting is good in the bedroom but tires fast for this game.
Graphics: This is why i thought it would be a good game. The graphics were nice, clean. They are of a high quality.
Sound: Unimpressionable. Quite frankly I do not really remember. I think this speaks volume for my overall attitude towards this game.
Suggestions: A mountaineer will often state they climb a mountain because it was there. Just because someone makes a good movie does not mean we need to make iot into a video game. And if you do make it good

Overall: I HATE THIS GAME!!!! this is the worst game ever it has no point to it.all i can say is stupid stupid stupid.
Gameplay: the controls are easy to use that is probably the only good thing about this dumb game. anything else is LAME.
Graphics: not all that special all it is, is a regular game. i dumb game that is. this game is point less to buy.
Sound: stupid. this is just one reallllyyy lame game. i cant even sell it that is how lame of a game it is.
Suggestions: DONT BUY IT

Overall: This was one of the first Xbox games I purchased as part of a bundle pack back in Nov of 2001 when the Xbox was released. I was really hyped about the game since I loved the movie. It didn't take too long to realize that this was just another disappointing movie-to-video game attempt.
Why couldn't they have just stayed with the storyline of the movie, and made it into an adventure game where you travel the countryside with your sidekick donkey, fight the dragon, rescue the princess, and save the fairytale creatures. It could have been so much better, but they turned the game into a joke. One of the biggest disappointments in my video game playing life.
Gameplay: Terrible gameplay. It's too easy in some spots, and way too hard in others. I didn't have the patience to go past the first level in this game.
Graphics: Graphics are the only thing going for this game. And even then you can't really appreciate them because of the bad camera angles and controls.
Sound: I didn't notice anything special about the sound in this game. About the only interesting part was the farts, and that was only funny the first few times.
Suggestions: If you do a sequel, please follow the storyline from the movie this time!

Date reviewed: September 3, 2002.

Overall: The game looks good, plays good, but repeats too much. You basically repeat the same mission over and over again. That's all there is to Shrek.
Gameplay: Looks good, and is easy to pick up and play. Sadly, the game is so repetitive, you'll be bored in about half an hour.
Graphics: The game looks good, which is an advantage to the bad game. It doesn't look bad, and looks similar to the movie.
Sound: The sound is okay, but it could be better. Listen while you play this game, and you'll see what I mean.
Suggestions: Give it replay value and make it more varied.

Overall: Really I don't think this game is as bad as people say. It's humourous enough to keep you playing but I could see some of the puzzles becoming frustrating sometimes. I don't think this game is worth playing unless you've seen the movie first (it makes more sense that way).
Gameplay: The gameplay is not too bad.. at least they let you alter the camera angle at will so that you can see where the hell you are.
Graphics: The graphics are decent but could have been better. It still beats the PS2 easily but does not live up to the caliber of games such as Halo. This is a good game for kids or people that liked the movie.
Sound: The sound is appropriate, I don't recall what the music sounds like hwoever so it is obviously forgettable. Realistic burp and fart sounds.
Suggestions: make your missions a bit more obvious. This game is going to be played by little kids and they aren't as intuitive as your average adult.

Date reviewed: May 27, 2002.

Overall: The game is a farily simple one, there isnt much interaction with the characters and the levels are pretty quick. The levels are pretty stupid too, the missions you have to do seem to be more "kiddie" based rather than for teenagers. Not very amusing and doesn't keep you coming back to play it again and again.
Gameplay: The controls are fairly easy, not much to learn. You have to know how to run, jump, get things, and attack. Thats about it, there arent any combos or gadgets you can use towards your advatage. Like I said, targeting the child population, rather than the teenage one.
Graphics: This is probably the best attribute of the game. The characters look very sharp, colored in detail and curved at the right angles. The environments are also very well made, and the game looks almost exactly like the movie.
Sound: The sound gets really anoying after a while, and you just dont want them to talk anymore. They say way too many phrases that really get to you, and you just want them to shut up. There arent many sound effects when you do actions, so there really isnt much to talk about. Sound is below average.
Suggestions: Should have made the game much longer, with more things to do. Its very one sided towards kids, and not towards the teenage gaming industry.

Overall: An enjoyable main character in SOME interesting settings. The makers did a good job maintaining the look and feel of the movie, even some of the humour, but ware not able to put it together into a cohesive game.
Gameplay: The game play appeal is sadly fairly low. Shrek seems targeted to younger players by it's look, but as soon as you begin to play you realize that even full grown - experienced gamers are going to have difficulty with many of the puzzles. The next problem that will probably sour many young gamers on Shrek it the fact that the control scheme is fairly difficult, and not at all suited for little hands as you have to pretty much use the whole controller. Finally, there are far too many problems with the camera. All third-person games seem to suffer from this to some degree but this is definately one of the most problematic I've run across since Tomb Raider 2 for the PC.
Graphics: There is no question that the visuals are the one true bright spot in Shrek. It really does look like you are playing a well animated computer generated cartoon.
Sound: The sound is good, but frankly nothing special. Although my 5 year old son did find the Shrek's farting and burping to be a riot.
Suggestions: My suggestion would simply be to pay more attention to who you are making the game for. If you are making a game for kids than the puzzles and the controls need to be simplified. If, on the other hand you are going to make a game for adults, you are not going to be able to get away with technical faults like the camera problems, and you are going to have to make the missions more varied.

Overall: Ok,this game isnt Halo or Max Payne but for its genre it is great!People,ya have to understand that this is geared towards kids and its not gonna give you the satisfaction you want if you've got a blood lust thing going. This game has difficult puzzles which is why I don't give it a 5-I like difficulty but the age range its geared to will find it very difficult.I myself am nearly finished with it and I have really enjoyed it.
Gameplay: Cute characters(even enimies),fun missions, and a full list of availible cheats make this game a real winner.A must have for the kids or even some playful adults! If you don't like cutesy puzzle games then don't even rent it!
Graphics: GREAT graphics, nothing like Final Fanasty(on my pc even!) or Halo but again, for its genre it is put together very well!
Sound: Good sounds,If ya like farting and burping.A lil gross but the kids 'll think it's the best thing ever.
Suggestions: Keep 'em comin'! but maybe their should be a disclaimer: Warning,if you are a stodgy old coot-please do not by this!!!!

Overall: My wife and I bought this game since we liked the movie. I was hoping that it would be like Oddworld as far as movement and interaction.
Boy, was I wrong there.
Don't buy a game just because it is based on a movie. Do some research first! Don't buy or rent this one. Save your money for something else.
Gameplay: Very difficult to move and control. "Unfair" play where you can be killed but you can not kill. What is the deal with it starting over again once you have finished a story section?
Graphics: Graphics are great. But view gets hung up sometimes and doesn't relocate automatically to see Shrek. Also you can't swing the view around 360 degrees.
Sound: Repetitive sounds and voices start to drive one mad. They should have packed a lot more sound clips for people.
Suggestions: Have it so you can kill people off. Better control of Shrek would be much better. Oddworld is a perfect example of better control.

Overall: Horrible. The whole gameplay is hard and it just plane sucks. This auctually is my sister's, but I tried it out and it's very hard. You can't even kill the other "people", all you can do is knock them around, oh, but you can die (which makes no sense at all).
Gameplay: The game play is basically "collect these things, put them here". That's it. Not only is it boring, but it's very hard to do because usually whatever you collect or do is undone by something else. Then you go to kill that thing because it took you 20 minutes to catch/do whatever it just undid and you can't kill it, just smack it around abit. Then that thing is after you and you die.
Graphics: The graphics are fantastic in this game. There is so much detail everywhere, but there is nothing interesting to do. Everything just looks awesome. I wish all Xbox games went into this kind of detail.
Sound: The sound in this game is okay, not great, but not horrible either. Almost everything has a couple of sounds when you kick it or punch it, although you're not paying much attention to the fact that you're always trying to kill something you can't.
Suggestions: Basically the game needed more diverse missions and the ability to "kill" characters that can "kill" you.

Overall: Movie Charactors in game. Kids like that. Shrek as an excellent movie. The Movie is sold me on the game.
Gameplay: Very poor, hard to control, difficult to master. Interesting that shrek can burp and fart. Very hard to master.
Graphics: Good shading/ graphics. XBOX helped out in this department. Could have been a lot better. Could have been.
Sound: Blows. In game music is terrible. Repeating sounds from characters becoming annoying. Lack of ingame music other than the tone deaf sounds I guess you call music.
Suggestions: Incorporate more of the movie charactors into game. Work on develoing a more intutiative gaming experice... if you don't know what I mean, play N64 Mario for a bit. You will understand!

Overall: The game is a nice idea: take the characters from Shrek and expand them into a Mario style game. Unfortunately that's where the fun ends. The only real appeal is in that the game portrays with nice detail the characters we've come to know from Shrek. This is definitely one to rent and NOT one to own, or alternatively one to leave aside altogeather. Go play Halo and leave shrek to his bad green self.
Gameplay: The gameplay is a simple effort in frustration. Being a game of this type, it's easy to see that it's market is primarily for the pre-20 crowd of gamers, yet the sheer difficulty of many puzzles with easily leave younger gamers screaming for something else to play (come to think of it, it leaves older gamers with the same feeling). The puzzles are devided into separate "worlds" shrek must get to by jumping into mirrors (sound famililar?). Each world has a nice unique feel, such as the Candy Factory, Mother Goose land, and the Spooky Graveyard. It would have been nice to feature more locations from the movie, rather than inventing new ones with new characters. TO complete each world, Shrek must accomplish a number of tasks which can open up new worlds for him to explore. Tasks range from things like farting on a dancing cow (oh yeah, that's one of Shrek's attacks...), to the sheer frustration of gathering pink faries (which looked to me like flying pigs). Every level has two of the same puzzles: finding hidden "easter eggs" and capturing the flying faries. Since the faries are constantly on the move, this proves to be unbelievably frustrating and very tiring.
Graphics: The graphics are the only saving grace of this game, though graphics alone don't make the game. With excellent shading, shadows, lightsourcing and various effects, the world of Shrek is brought to life with amazing detail. The textures are simply stunning, while many worlds do hold truly unique designs to them that would choke most graphics chips, the NVidia chip easily draws complex twisting castles without so much as a hiccup. Too bad the designers didn't put more focus into a GAME instead of GRAPHICS.
Sound: At first the sound effects seem nice. The music is quaint and fitting for each world, and the secondary characters have a few cute things they call out when they get near shrek. Eventually this turns into repetetive boredom. Listening to humpty train chicks to be eggs is funny the first time, but try spending a few hours hunting for flying pigs while he drones on about "fall up! Fall down! Fall up! Fall down!" -I'd swear its' chinese water torture.
Suggestions: -There's too much wrong with this game to adress here. The graphics are nice, detailed and crisp. Try working on a game next time.
