Overall: if you are a big baseball fan and you want to get a game that you can take serious, play seasons, make trades, manage teams, create players... then this is not the game for you. if you are just looking for a fun game that will allow you to have a good time and do not care to much about baseball, then this is probably the best bet for a baseball game.
Gameplay: being a big baseball fan, some things on this game are incredible annoying. its almost as if the progammers have never seen a baseball game before. for example, if you hit a homerun off the foul pole, it is not a homerun. also, my friend hit a homerun that bounced of a wall in the stands, back into the field and it did not count as a homerun. inside the park homeruns and triples are more common than singles, and a batter who hits a line drive to left field can be thrown out at first base. if you hit a ball to the gap, it bounces of the wall at rediculous angles and speeds, bounces way far away from the outfielder allowing the runners to get extra bases every time. each team has only 3 pitchers that you can choose from, and there are no substitute batters or pinch runners etc. when playing against the computer, if you throw a low fastball, the computer will be way ahead of the ball and miss almost every time, despite the pitch being 120 mph. also against the computer, when they reach base all you have to do is stand right by the runner. they punch your fielder, you drop the ball, they try to take the next base and you simply pick up the ball and throw them out. it works pretty much every time. each pitcher has 4 pitches but they rarely are the pitches that the pitcher pitches in real life. all pitchers are basically the same, so there is no advantage to being randy johnson, or pedro martinez for example. the pitches have crazy movements to them, making it almost impossible to determine a ball or strike, you basically just swing at every pitch. also, all pitchers have the same windups, and all batters have the same stances.
although all these qwerks are very annoying, i bought the game expecting it to be similar to other midway games. they are meant to be fun instead of real, and thats exactly what this is. there are a bunch of cool things you can do, for example: sliding tackles, beating up base runners, beaning on command, charging the mound, sweet diving catches, power throws from the outfield to the infield, and a bunch of other stuff. its probably the funnest baseball game on the market, but if you want a realistic game, do not buy this game.

Graphics: graphics are great. every players face looks almost exactly like that player. they did a really good job with the faces. the cutscenes after outs, innnings, and the game that show players celebrating or being angry are very smooth and have great animations, although they get old after a while because there are only a couple of them. the ballbarks look amazing, exactly like the actual ballparks. this is probably one of my favorite things about the game.
Sound: i haven't really played around with the surround sound (if it even has it). the commentators are kind of funny at first, but they get old very fast, and the stuff they say is extremely stupid. other sound effects, like when a player hits a homerun are pretty sweet though.
Suggestions: try to actually watch a baseball game and get to know the rules, and also try to proportion the amount of homeruns, triples, doubles etc more like that of a real baseball game. it is very sad that inside the park homeruns are almost more common than singles.

Overall: I bought this game on a whim as it was only $19.99 at Sam's Club, and I was happy I did. The game is highly entertaining (often fall on the floor funny) and has excellent gameplay and graphics. Some may not like the fact that it isn't too deep (no trading, player create, pretty light on stats, etc...), but that's not what this game is about. If you are looking for a baseball sim, or one that is true to the game, steer clear of this one. However, if you want a highly entertaining, hilarious game that doesn't take baseball too seriously, this is a game for you.
Gameplay: The hitter and pitching controls are simple, but not too simplistic. The game plays very well and has a nice feel to it. It's very simple for beginners, but it also has more in depth controls that advanced users can utilize (baserunning in particular).
Graphics: The graphics were excellent. The animations were smooth and often hilarious (I love the batter reactions, and reactions of the infielders when a home run is hit, or a batter beats the crap out of a pitcher). The stadiums look very good.
Sound: This is what put the game over the top for me. The announcing is the funniest and most in depth of any sports game. I really did not expect that from a Midway/NFL Blitz-ish title. Words can't do it justice, you really have to hear it. The rest of the sounds are very good.
Suggestions: The menu option aren't the easiest to navigate (stats are particullarly hard to cycle through). And, even though it's not a baseball sim, it would be nice to have a more complete roster (only 2 starting pitchers on each team). But, the good far outweighs any bad in this game.

Overall: Not your average boring baseball game, MLB Slugfest serves as a good quick-fix type of baseball fan for those of us who don't care about all the stats and options hard core baseball fans live for. It is a breath of fresh air with exagerated gameplay and excellent camera angles (especially on homeruns). Unfortunately it was released so late in baseball season that few people have taken notice. Overall this game focuses on the aspects people enjoy about modern Major League Baseball: big offense.
Gameplay: Controls are simple to pick up and some actions such as throwing to separate bases have multiple ways to do it. Midway's infamous "Turbo" option is included and does wonderful things at bat and in the field. Inclusion of all the right buttons to push on the screen further simplifies the game. Pitchers each have a battery of four pitches and batters can hit for power or contact. Best of all the pitcher can bean batters to lower attributes such as speed, power, or batting. There's nothing like playing against your buddy and steadily lowering his superstar's ability to hit and run throughout the game. This is one of those games which is best played with a fellow casual baseball fan.
Graphics: In many regards better than other stiff baseball games. The stadiums are well done. Players look great but could use a little more detailed facial work. The reactions of players after homeruns, strikeouts, and other big plays are where this game excels. At times the reactions are all too human and hilarious. Another nice touch is the tracking line on the ball as it is thrown and hit. It is eerily reminiscent of the puck highlighting graphics on hockey games a couple of years back, but helps when playing the game.
Sound: Another great part of the game! The two announcers do a great job of duplicating the often brainless banter of baseball announcers. The older annnouncer often slips into hilarious rambling which prompted one of my buddies to purchase the game simply to hear the announcing. Additionally, Midway does a great job of duplicating the ambient noise at the ballpark.
Suggestions: Great work, but like the NFL Blitz franchise MLB Slugfest needs continuous work. 1) Add a trade or move player feature to the game 2) Add a create a player option to the game (possibly with a feature to build the players ability) 3) Give pitchers the ability to catch on fire besides going 2 for 2 in hitting (2 or 3 stikeouts in a row perhaps?) 4) Add soundtrack support for between innings or when a batter steps to the plate. 5) add more players for pinch hitting and defensive substitutions.
