Unreal Championship

Overall: First person shooter with solid graphics, well-varied weapons, and great level design. One of the craziest and most enjoyable games on Xbox Live. It does go wrong in one critical area though . . . The framerate often stutters, even when not online. This is VERY FRUSTRATING, especially if you are about to pick up a kill. Lag is also common online to the point where certain weapons, that depend on quick hits (lightning gun), are rendered useless.

Gameplay: There is no single player storyline, which is disappointing. The single player mode is an arrangement of matches against bots of any difficulty you choose. Customizable controls are also included, although the default controls are not bad. After every kill (unless adrenaline has been deactivated), each character is awarded adrenaline points, which allows them to perform four special abilities: invisibility, berserk, agility, or regeneration. Adrenaline may also be found scattered throughout the level. There are Six races of characters to choose from, each with their own abilities. Nightmare characters only begin with 70 health, but they drain health from all of their victims until they reach 140 health. Gen Mo Kai characters have the quickest feet in the game, which makes them perfect for Capturing the Flag. Anubans get a 50% boost in adrenaline, while also being the most acrobatic fighters. Automatons have decent ground speed, while being the best high jumpers in the game. Mercenaries are human characters that have no special abilities, but they have a starting health of 120 (2nd highest). Lastly, are the Juggernauts, which have a starting health of 190. They are incredibly slow, but a pain to kill. In addition, each specific character has a weapon affinity that either improves the fire rate, damage, or starting ammo of whatever gun they begin with. Depending on whatever type of player you are, there should be one character that suits your personality and weapon preference. This is one of the best parts of the game.

Graphics: Graphics are high quality when the game is not lagging. Actually, there is really nothing else to say here.

Audio: The announcer yells: HEAD SHOT! every time you score a head shot with the lightning gun. The victims head will explode with fire, and they will usually die. Music to some of the levels may become annoying very quickly though.

Suggestions: Please include a real single player mode, not a bunch of bot matches that are just a waste of time, other than preparing for online play. Graphics are great, just fix the terrible framerate.

Overall Score: 8.0 / 10
Midnight Club 2

Overall: Your job is to escalate in rank as a member of the Midnight Club street racing syndicate. You travel to three cities across the globe: Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo. Every time you defeat someone, you take their vehicle. In the meantime, you unlock different maneuvers that can be used to help win races (Slip Stream Turbo, Two-Wheel Driving . . .). There are no rules. Races all include checkpoints. You must clear all the checkpoints by any means necessary. The action is intense and the races are close. Best racing game on the Xbox.

Gameplay: What makes Midnight Club II different is the number of features all of the vehicles have. Each vehicle, excluding the motorcylce, has at least one nitrous tank, that provides a huge boost when used. Later in the game, Burnout, Weight Transfer, Slip Stream Turbo, Two-Wheel Driving, and extra tanks of Nitrous can be added. This adds a whole new layer of gameplay. Sometimes, it is effective to stay behind racers, in order to use the Slip Stream Turbo. Two-wheel driving makes it possible to squeeze in between traffic. Pulling off moves is simple, but mastering them and executing them at high speeds takes plenty of skill.

Graphics: The graphics are average for an Xbox Game. Nothing spectacular here, but enough to get the job done.

Audio: The sound is great. You can here the engines and the pedestrians yelling. Before each race in career mode, you can hear what your opponent is thinking, which is cool. No complaints.

Suggestions: It would be great if you could win something other than cars. Maybe parts of cars that you can use to create a custom vehicle. Otherwise, great job.

Overall Score: 9.0 / 10
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Tides of War

Overall: Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a first person shooter that takes place during the World War II time period. It uses mostly authentic weapons from that time period. Enemies vary from Nazi soldiers dressed in the uniforms of that time, to zombies and x-creatures.

Gameplay: The gameplay is typical of most fps. What makes this game stand out are the guns. They are varied enough to not be repetitive, and each gun has its own weaknesses and strengths. A perfect example of this is the Silenced Sten Machine Gun. It is leathal and silent, but when the trigger is held for more than a couple of seconds, the barrel will overheat, causing the gun to be useless for about three seconds. There is also a sniper rifle with a night vision add-on. The gun is deadly, usually putting down the enemy in one well-placed shot, but ammo is scarce, and the fire rate is not sufficient to carry a battle at close quarters. There is no secondary fire, and you have to scroll through weapons to use grenades. There is a jump move, which actually plays a role in the campaign, and there is kick move used to break objects such as vases and pictures on the wall. The only complaint I have in this area is that scrolling through guns can be tedious at times. At some points throughout the campaign, B.J. Blazcowicz (your character) is carrying so many weapons, that finding the exact weapon you need in a short amount of time is a quite annoying task. Especially because the enemy soldiers all have machine guns, having the wrong gun equipped can cause a quick death, or greatly weaken you (depending on which difficulty you set the game on).

Graphics: Visually, Return to Castle Wolfenstein does a good job. It doesn't reach the level that Halo did, but I have no complaints in terms of character models, gun models, and level design. Framerate is another issue. In the single player campaign, this is not much of an issue, only when you are in a room full of Nazi's holstering machine guns. In multiplayer co-op, it's a completely different story. The framerate stutters plenty of times, mostly when both players are firing their weapons at the same times. It can become distracting at times.

Audio: The sound is this game is very well done. Unlike most games, the sound actually stands out, and makes a difference in the gameplay. You can detect enemies by their yells and determine which gun is being fired by its particular noise. The shots fired from guns are rendered excellently.

Suggestions: The main flaw in the game is the stuttering frame rate in multiplayer. Other than that, great job on making a good fps compatible with Xbox Live.
