Overall: Let me first say I recommend you renting this game first to see if you like it!! Now for overall appeal, everything looks pretty good here. The whole game has a kind of asian theme to it. And that begins to get a little annoying. Pencil scetch cutscenes can be kind of boring at times. The goodnews is that the gameplay is very smooth, The menu systems are simple enough. Best thing about the game is the graphics and the water physics you hear so much about. Bloodwake is far from perfect but it can also be a very entertaining game.Gameplay: As I said gameplay is very smooth. As of yet not chopping or anything. The boats handling seems a little funny or "loose" at first but I guess thats just what a boat feels like on water. You have a variety of missions, some at night, some during the day, and some during storms, or both. You unlock battle modes and ships as you go along, so you shouldn't grow tired of it too quickly. The main reason you might want to put it down would be because it feels like you are doing the same things over and over. The multiplayer is also a plus and I am happy to say that there are bots. So when your friends aren't around you can duke it out with enemy ships in several game types. One thing I must mention is that sometimes when you're trying to turn sharply your boat will stop and begin backing up which is very annoying.
Graphics: The graphics in this game are one of the best things about it. The water physics are also quite impressive especially during a storm. I havn't seen much framerate suffering at all, it has run very smootly so far.
The boats have a good amount of detail but I think there is still a lot of room for improvement visually in this game. For example, the backgrounds and shoreline textures arn't very complex. The explosions arn't all that great either.
Audio: If the game lacks in one area I think it is here. The asian theme to the game gets on my nerves. The guy talking sounds like the guy from the USA network who says "Bozai" if you know what I'm talking about. Another problem is when the weapons are shooting they hardly make any sounds. The sound effects seem to be muffled wayyyy down for some reason. I turned the sound FX volume all the way up in the settings and it helped a little. The music soundtrack isn't bad, not much to criticize there.
Suggestions: Make more boats with more weapons selections. Take away the asian voices. And make the guns and explosions where they are much louder and pronounced.
