Bachs Departure Related to Xbox Timeline
Earlier today, it was revealed that Robbie Bach and J Allard plan to step down from their responsibilities at Microsofts Entertainment & Devices division. For Bach at least, the move appears to be related to the Xbox brands next step beyond Project Natal.
Kotaku is reporting that Bach opted to step down because he could not commit to the additional three or more years needed to plan the future of the Xbox. Consequently, the 20-plus year veteran will be moving on this fall.
Allard has reportedly said that Microsoft has comprised roughly "95 percent" of his life in recent years, so hes stepping back to pursue other interests. Nevertheless, he will remain as an advisor to CEO Steve Ballmer while Bach plans to spend more time doing charitable work for the Boys & Girls Club of America.
Microsofts plans for the Xbox 360 beyond the release of Project Natal are currently unknown. A successor to the platform has not yet been announced, but is speculated for a 2012 release.
Regardless of how the Xbox brand proceeds, it will be doing so without two of the people who helped make it what it is today.
