NPD: Xbox 360 tops console sales in January
Xbox 360 was the top selling console in the US in January, according to NPD data provided by Microsoft.
"Sustained consumer demand for Kinect helped propel Xbox 360" to 381,000 sales, up 48,000 over January 2010, the platform holder said in a statement.
Microsoft also said NPD data showed total retail spend on Xbox 360 exceeded $551 million in January, making it the No.1 selling console platform for the tenth month in a row.
"Some lingering supply constraints coupled with high consumer demand led to continued pockets of shortages at retail," the firm claimed.
"Microsoft anticipates this trend to improve through February, but will continue to work with retail and manufacturing partners to expedite production and shipments."
Sony and Nintendo have yet to release any monthly platform sales figures, but well update this story if the numbers are made available.
Call of Duty: Black Ops was the No.1 game in January, while Dead Space 2, LittleBigPlanet 2 and DC Universe Online debuted on the software top ten chart.
