Guardian Heroes HD Remake Coming to XBLA
Sega just announced that its giving one of the cult favorite Saturn games the HD treatment: Guardian Heroes is coming to Xbox Live Arcade! Originally released on the Saturn in 1996, Guardian Heroes is a side-scrolling brawler from Treasure, also known for such titles as Radiant Silvergun and Gunstar Heroes. The beauty of Guardian Heroes, however, was that it also included lots of RPG and adventure elements, making it so much more than your standard brawler. It also featured an incredibly cool art/visual style and soundtrack.
If youve never seen the game before, trust me, its stellar. And its one that we, along with lots of others, had been asking to see given the HD treatment for quite some time.
But dont get your hopes up too high just yet -- it looks like Sega has opted to go for a quick update as opposed to a proper remake. Looking at the first screenshots, it appears that someone merely traced over the original graphics to make them appear HD. Pretty disappointing, to the honest.
Anyway, the Xbox Live Arcade version is enhanced with all sorts of goodies beyond just HD visuals: online co-op play, some new modes of play, and new battle modes that allow up to 12 players to play at once (which sounds a bit nuts, but cant wait to see that in action).
Sega didnt give a release date for Guardian Heroes HD just yet, but we cant wait to find out more. Oh, and if youre wondering about a PSN version, theres no word on that, but it wouldnt be surprising to see later on.
