Acclaim Brings Vexx To The XBox

Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. Unleashes New Action Hero This Fall With ’VEXX’ Eagerly Anticipated Platform Action Title From Company’s Award-Winning Austin Studio, Brings Heroic Quest, Dark Storyline and Fierce Combat to All Next-Generation Platforms LOS ANGELES --May 22, 2002-- There’s a new "bad boy" in town and every other character in the video game industry should be prepared to be "VEXX-ed," as Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. , today announced its fall release of VEXX(TM) across all of the next-generation gaming platforms. Currently in development by the Company’s award-winning Austin Studio, VEXX is an original platform action title that allows players to assume the role of the title character as he embarks on a dark, heroic quest to seek vengeance on those that enslaved his people and murdered his family. Acclaim will be supporting the title with a massive integrated marketing campaign, including television and print advertising, online banners, contests, consumer demos and innovative cross-promotions. "VEXX underscores the vision and commitment of Acclaim in delivering groundbreaking products, and is poised to redefine the genre when it launches in the fall," said Sarah Anderson, Senior Vice President of Brand. "Having been in development for nearly two years, VEXX has been specifically designed to push the limits of this generation of hardware to deliver an unparalleled gameplay experience, that has yet to be achieved in a platform game. With incredible graphics, non-stop action, immense levels and an engrossing storyline, VEXX will be the action hero to reckon with at retail this holiday season." On the forsaken remains of what was once the proud planet called Astara, the villagers of Rockhaven lead difficult but peaceful lives, until the day the Shadowraith, "Dark Yabu," and his minions swept down from the sky. With terrible ferocity and ruthless efficiency they descended upon the townsfolk, enslaving them to work deep in the caves that surrounded their village. Dark Yabu murdered the grandfather of the young VEXX, who managed to slip quietly aboard the enemy’s windship. There, locked deep within Yabu’s sanctum, was the last pair of Astani Battlegauntlets, which leapt from their chest onto VEXX’s outstretched hands, and bonded to his arms and giving him special powers. Prepared to meet his destiny, VEXX embarks upon a heroic quest through volcanic islands, desert temples, frozen citadels, and giant’s castles, to confront Dark Yabu high atop the Landspire, save his people, and avenge the death of his grandfather. VEXX will offer many exciting features, including:
  • 18 extraordinary levels spanning treetop canopy villages, mysterious caves, desert temples, underwater cities, deadly volcanoes, and more;
  • Hidden multi-player party games unlocked as players progress through the single player world;
  • Free climbing mode allows players to climb uneven surfaces and dangle beneath overhangs;
  • Each level’s distinguishing landmark can be viewed from anywhere in the world in real-time;
  • Day and night cycles with real-time lighting. Nighttime changes the landscape and characters: enemies become more aggressive and the environments become more hostile;
  • Ultra-responsive player controls that reacts instantly to player inputs: gamers can cancel a move midway through and fire off extensive combo attacks;
  • Hidden sundials allowing players to change the time of day and gameplay;
  • Advanced environment mapping, including reflections, glows, and highlights on characters;
  • Clothes, hair and trees respond dynamically to the environment;
  • Highly flexible cinematic camera system;
  • Epic soundtrack and stunning 3D surround sound effects.
  • VEXX will be available this fall across all next-generation gaming platforms at suggested retail prices to be determined. Acclaim’s complete showcase of products will be featured at E3 in Los Angeles, CA at booth #1046 in the South Hall.
