The question of “who’s the best online baseball player in the world?” is being asked everyday. To settle the debate, Microsoft Game Studios has thrown down the gauntlet and will launch the first ever Xbox Live baseball tournament. Four finalists in the first annual “Xbox Live Inside Pitch Champions Challenge” will compete for the title at the 2003 Major League Baseball All-Star Game® in Chicago on July 14-15. As the only Xbox baseball game available for head-to-head online play, “Inside Pitch 2003” is offering something that its competitors cannot – the chance for baseball fans to truly test their skills online against the best players in the world. The “Champions Challenge” is a real time Xbox Live tournament where hardball fans can prove their mettle on the virtual diamond. The four finalists will compete for the top spot in the “Inside Pitch Champions Challenge” at the John Hancock All-Star FanFest®. The winner will receive two tickets to the 74th All-Star Game at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago on Tuesday, July 15. Beginning June 12, the top 1,500 ranked players on the 7 Inning leader board will be extended an invitation to participate in the tournament and if deemed eligible will be entered to win one of 50 signed Nomar Garciaparra baseballs. The top 64 qualifying respondents will be seeded in the tournament based on their rankings. Tournament play will begin in Mid-June and continue through four rounds. The final four players will win a trip to Chicago where they will compete in the semifinal and final rounds on site at the John Hancock All-Star Fan Fest at McCormick Place. Gamers only need four things to play: a copy of “Inside Pitch 2003”, Xbox, Xbox Live and some serious skills.
