If you believe it is inevitable, you either don't truly understand computing or you underestimate the abilities of game devs. Noone wants to hear that the emperor has no clothes, but systems are way overpowered today compared to the great majority of code that is written for them. Simply put, if they have the time and resources, there is no reason that they could not be (to the mundane human eye anyway, haven't heard of any human that can tell the difference in polygon counts when competitent artists are involved) the exact same game.
