Midway Embraces ParadoxPublisher and developer Midway Games announced today that it has acquired Paradox Development, the folks behind the Backyard Wrestling titles, as well as Midways upcoming Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks. Midway nabbed the privately-held developer in an all-stock transaction of 333,334 Midway common shares. Paradox joins the Midway family shortly after the publisher bought The Suffering creators Surreal Software as well as Inevitable Entertainment, the studio behind the forthcoming Area 51. Midway President and CEO David F. Zucker commented, "Todays acquisition further strengthens our ability to expand on our current portfolio of games and produce new high quality, top-selling games for the future. Furthermore, the Paradox teams expertise in the fighting genre is an excellent fit with Midways product strengths and will help us extend the Mortal Kombat franchise into the action-adventure genre and release a highly engaging title in the Mortal Kombat universe annually." Midway describes Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks as an action-adventure title, featuring new combat moves, puzzles, plenty of classic Kombat characters, and both single- and multiplayer action. Founded in 1994, Paradox Development is based in Moorpark, California.
