Meqon Creates Real World Physics For Xbox

December 22nd. Meqon Research AB, creators of advanced physics systems for the videogames industry, has become a registered middleware supplier for the Xbox® video game system from Microsoft, with the release of a new version of the Meqon Game Dynamics Software Development Kit (SDK) for Xbox, joining the company's successful PC and PlayStation releases. Meqon has created a comprehensive technology which allows development studios designing games to integrate advanced real-world physics into their titles, providing fast, realistic, consistent and dynamic physics to affect all objects, vehicles and characters as well as the game environment itself. Meqon Game Dynamics enables everything from character physics – where human and animal-like bodies are modeled realistically, to vehicle handling, fluid dynamics and full object interaction. Together with the specialized Meqon tools, it fits right into the content creation pipeline of any studio. The company has already signed a number of deals to provide leading game developers with the Meqon Game Dynamics system for PC and PlayStation2, including 3D Realms, the creators of the highly anticipated 'Duke Nukem Forever' game. “We are thrilled to release the Meqon Game Dynamics SDK for Microsoft's Xbox,” said Jonas Lindqvist, the chief executive officer of Meqon. “The Xbox has proven itself very popular with consumers and game developers alike and the number of best-selling titles which have appeared on the console show exactly what's possible when such a powerful piece of hardware reaches talented developers. With the creation of the Meqon Game Dynamics SDK for the Xbox, we are hoping to push back the boundaries of game development even further and make it possible for developers to create even greater levels of realism and fidelity and to do it quickly, simply and flawlessly every time.” Tracey Franckom, Account Manager, Tools & Middleware for Xbox, said, “The Xbox middleware program seeks to proactively provide developers with the tools and solutions they require to maximize the possibilities offered by the hardware. As video games model worlds and environments ever more accurately, physics and dynamic effects are growing increasingly important in creating a consistent and believable environment with the game. We are very pleased that Meqon's Game Dynamics software will be made available to developers working on the Xbox and look forward to the first titles which incorporate the Meqon technology.” Evaluation versions of the Meqon Game Dynamics software development kit for PC, PlayStation2 and Xbox are available to game development studios upon application to Meqon: www.meqon.com ENDS. About Meqon Meqon was founded in 2002 and has its headquarters in Norrköping, Sweden. The company develops physics middleware for the computer game industry and has in its short existence enhanced both games and industrial products with its simulation products.
