(RUMOR) - Go Ahead, Make My Game
No icon untouched and no movie franchise un-exploited seems to be the message from publishers in todays modern gaming world, but welcome news today comes from the mouth of craggy-faced genius and seventies icon Clint Eastwood, with word that a Dirty Harry game is in the works.Yup, rogue seventies cop Harry Callahan is set to be immortalised in a new game. Most importantly, Mr Eastwood himself will be at the heart of proceedings in a deal tied up between Eastwoods own film company Malpaso Productions and Warner Brothers Interactive. Eastwood will be lending his likeness, voice and creative input, and given his impressive directorial credentials it would seem Dirty Harry will be an winning mix of seventies cool and harsh ultra-violence.
"This will be an opportunity to satisfy the many requests over the years to continue the Dirty Harry legacy, only now in the video game medium," Eastwood told the Hollywood Reporter. "Creating Dirty Harry video games will also introduce this memorable film character to new generations on a medium they appreciate."
Theres little further info on the game, but given the timing of the announcement wed expect a release on next-gen platforms like the Xbox 2, PS3 and Revolution with the announcement also indicating this could be just the first in a long-running series.
Marvellous, and with such a rich legacy in Dirty Harry, Magnum Force, The Enforcer and er okay Sudden Impact to draw on the prospects seem fair set, especially if they can license the iconic .44 Magnum - "the most powerful handgun in the world" (at the time) - to go alongside.
Hopefully this could be just the first in a whole new set of Clint franchises and we for one would absolutely kill for some Man with no Name action. More on Dirty Harry when weve cleaned ourselves up.
