New-gen GTA V will reward returning players with exclusive content

Grand Theft Auto 5 players returning to the game on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC will receive "exclusive content" for their loyalty, including new events, rewards, weapons and a murder mystery, developer Rockstar Games announced today.

According to Rockstar, the events are "connected to activities designed for players to experience the game’s massive world in new and exciting ways."

GTA 5 will ship with new events across the open-world game that unlock new vehicles like the Dudo seaplane. New weapons include rail gun and a hatchet.

Blaine County and Los Santos are also filled with new wildlife, and an accompanying Wildlife Photo Challenge will challenge players with cataloging the species. As a reward, they’ll unlock the Kraken Sub. Compete in new Stock Car races, and players can earn new muscle cars.

Players will take on the role of Michael De Santa, one of GTA 5’s three protagonists, for the murder mystery.

"As Michael, follow a trail of cryptic clues to unravel a grisly murder mystery," the press release reads. "Put the clues together and you’ll unlock two Noir Style Filters, which will give your Story Mode gameplay and Snapmatic photos the feel of a gritty old school crime classic."

The exclusive content will not arrive on the Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 versions of the game. According to Rockstar, it’s "being designed exclusively as a reward for returning players" and the "vastly enhanced graphics and many other gameplay updates on the new versions of Grand Theft Auto 5 are really only made possible by virtue of the powerful new hardware of the new consoles and PC."

Those who pre-order the game will receive $1 million in GTA 5’s in-game currency, half of which is for the campaign and half of which is for Grand Theft Auto Online.

Rockstar also answered some frequently asked questions, confirming that you’ll be able to transfer any exclusive content from last year’s Grand Theft Auto 5 to the new consoles.

According to Rockstar, in Grand Theft Auto Online, you’ll only be able to transfer your player once. You can continue to play on each system, but the characters will diverge after the transfer, and progress will not be shared. Players’ jobs will transfer between generations.

Grand Theft Auto 5 will arrive on PS4 and Xbox One Nov. 18. It’s headed to Windows PC Jan. 27, 2015.
