Semtech helps the Xbox

In a recent press release Semtech Corp, a leading supplier of mixed-signal semiconductors for computers, communications and industrial equipment, announced that it has signed a contract to supply multiple power management solutions for use in the Xbox.

Semtech, recognized for its leading-edge power solutions for the desktop, notebook and handheld computing industry, will provide several proprietary power management controllers for use in Microsoft’s new video gaming system. The company’s products are used to provide high-efficiency power conversion and regulation in the game system’s high-speed main circuit board. Microsoft plans to debut Xbox in November 2001, with 600,000 to 800,000 units available immediately for purchase.

"Semtech is proud to be selected as a preferred supplier at the launch of this exciting and innovative video game system," stated Jack Poe, Semtech chairman and CEO. "This contract underscores Microsoft’s confidence in our products and in our ability to support their world-class logistics undertaking."

Said Todd Holmdahl, general manager, Xbox Hardware, "Having Semtech semiconductor components on-board, literally, will help ensure the high quality and reliability of the Xbox gaming experience." Holmdahl is responsible for overseeing the development and manufacturing of the Xbox system.
