Xbox 360 Memory Card 512 MBThe listing shows that pre-orders are beginning for a $49.99 512MB memory unit, due to ship March 1. Nevertheless, Microsoft is still keeping any detailed announcements regarding a larger portable storage device under its hat. “We have not made any announcements about a new MU,” a Microsoft spokesperson told Next-Gen in an e-mail statement. “Keep in mind that retailers will sometimes list items based on the best available information that they have, which may later turn out to be incomplete or not 100 percent accurate.” Still, Microsoft is widely expected to release a larger memory unit in the future. The current memory unit is 64MB in size and retails for $39.99. On an "official" basis, the size of downloadable Xbox Live Arcade games is capped at 50MB in order to ensure that the titles can be stored on memory units. This makes the titles accessible to Xbox 360 owners who don’t have the 20GB hard drive for the console. Many gamers are hoping that an increase in memory unit size will bring a confirmation of an XBLA size cap increase, in effect bringing larger downloadable games to the console. The first and only announced XBLA game that will break the size cap limit will be Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, which is releasing later this year.
