MTV Games Signs BruckheimerMovie and TV producer Jerry Bruckheimer and MTV have announced a collaboration to create new and original games.
Forming a new games studio, MTV and Bruckheimer intend to create new IP from concept to platform, with MTV Games handling distribution and marketing, and Jeff Yapp, executive vice president overseeing the production.
"Videogames represent a new and innovative medium for what weve always tried to do, which is to tell great stories," commented Bruckheimer. "But this medium is unique in that it gives the player control over how those stories unfold."
"I look forward to working with MTV Games to create new original game stories, always looking for ways to innovate the medium."
As well as games, the partnership noted the possibility of game concepts migrating to other media including film and TV.
"Jerry Bruckheimer and his innate talent for developing wildly successful entertainment properties that range from action, reality, drama, sports, and comedy are the perfect complement to our vision for MTV Games and the experience our audiences truly crave," said Van Toffler, President of MTV Networks Music & Logo Group.
"Theres a huge intersection between the fans of Bruckheimer films, our audience and gamers, making the potential for this partnership to be as explosive as one of his blockbuster films."
MTV Networks intends to support the partnership across all of its broadcast and digital platforms - which include CMT, MTV, Spike and VH1.
Bruckheimer has been behind multiple film and TV successes including CSI, Without A Trace, Bad Boys, Pirates of the Caribbean and Pearl Harbor.
MTV Networks has made a number of high profile moves into videogames over the past 18 months, including the acquisition of Rock Band developer Harmonix, and it announced in August that it would be investing over USD 500 million in games over the next two years.
