A major part of any game is the music contained therein. A great game can become a masterpiece with the help of some amazing audio designers and composers. Volition has a number of individuals on our audio team, and two of them have written out a small blurb on the origins for a number of tracks within RFG:

A massive collaboration between several composers, it includes a strongly contrasting collection of the single player campaign’s interactive music (Jake Kaufman, Raison Varner, and Dan Wentz), the multiplayer tracks (George Oldziey and Dan Wentz), and the cinematics (Tim Wynn, recorded live at the Skywalker Ranch).

 The Bombastic cutscene orchestrations contrast with the lush, evolving electronic beds which accompany Alec Mason’s journey across the Martian landscape. The combat music, reacting in realtime to the player’s actions, is captured in one of its infinite variations. Multiplayer music combines themes from Red Faction I and II with new soundscapes to round out the package.  All in all, this soundtrack contains 32 tracks with over 3 hours of music taken from the game. You can purchase the full album or individual tracks from any of the links below. We’re also hoping to have it available for purchase on iTunes and some other online retailers very soon, and I’ll update this post when a new source is available.
