Sonic makes his Xbox debut with Sonic Heroes, Sega’s latest installment to the Sonic license. So does Sonic show any signs of aging, or slowing down for that matter?"
Overall: This is the first sonic game on the xbox. And a brand new sonic game entirely. unlike the ported dreamcast games on the game cube. this game is some how worse then sonic adventure games but still a worthy addition to the sonic saga. the major pull of the game is having three characters at once instead of the one character. Gameplay: like i said before the main pull of the game is having three characters at once. the problem is this is more annoying then it has to be. instead of having funi was paying more attention to which character to change to rather then the game itself. it is frustrating at first but i got use to it however i like having one character only and not three. and there is a muliti player but it is not very good. Graphics: the graphics are more polished then in the sonic adventure titles the characters all have this sort of sheen to there bodies. It makes them look cool and not as choppy as in the sonic adventure games so thats a plus but the enviorments are not as much fun to run around in. the textures are dull and blurred. this being a multi-platform game this is understood i mean the ps2 can not do what the xbox can do. however the textures could have been richer. the graphics do get the job done though. Sound: the same old voice overs and 80s rock music are all back.please sega get better voice actors like in shenmue for the dreamcast. I will say this however tails voice is much improved he is not as annoying to listen to anymore like in sonic adventure. the sound effects are all well done so this score is mostly for the bad voice acting. I can get use to the music but never the bad voice overs. Suggestions: please go back to having one character. and put the chao garden back in that was a lot of fun for me. get better voice actors and develop only for xbox you could do a lot of good on the green machine.
Overall: Like I said in my eXictement comment, I bought it the day it came out (for the Xbox anyway), and I was not disapointed at all. Gameplay: This game is like the other 3D Sonic games, except you play as 3 characters at onces, switching to do different stuff. For example, you may have to fly over things, if you did you would press either X or Y depending on where your fly formation character is at in the top right corner of the screen. Graphics: Could be better, because I know Xbox is capable of better graphics, but it's Sonic Team's first game for Xbox, so they might not know that they could be better for Xbox than for Gamecube or PS2. They're not bad, just not as good as most Xbox games. Sound: The music is really good, and I really like Team Chaotix's theme, as well as Team Dark's and the main theme. Suggestions: Custom soundtrack, ability to hook 2 or more Xbox's up to have a system link game, and better graphics.
Overall: Sonic, one of, if not THE greatest video game characters of all time, an icon that nearly all can recognise. After a break between Megadrive and Dreamcast, where only a fun to play, but not that great racing game,Sonic R , the not actually 3D Sonic 3D, and a handful of cameo appearences in games such as Bug. Sonic made the transition to 3D on Dreamcast, and well, with Sonic Adventure, which added role playing elements.
For this game it's all out platform action, with the twist of having 3 characters at your disposal. Sadly, while it's a great idea, its not that fun to play, the graphics are good but plain, and there's not much to come back for. Gameplay: Plays reasonably well, and easy to control so youngsters can pick it up, but having 3 characters control does little except make the game an effort to play with the constant switching of characters to suit the obstacle. Not much to keep you coming back with repetitive gameplay that should have been left in the early 90s. Features that could have vastly added to the game, such as Sonic Adventure 1 & 2's awesome Chao Gardens, didn't make it into this game, which is a slight letdown. Graphics: Looks nice enough, but graphics and environments are plain and cartoony, I'd go as far to say as not any better than the visuals of Sonic Adventure, released 5 years ago, and on a console with inferior graphical capabilities. But overall, get the job done. Sound: Classic jingles and the 'ching'ing of rings bring back memories of Sonics glory days, but the extremely soft rock tunes in the game are just plain annoying. Suggestions: Either leave Sonic in the past where he ruled the platforming world, or make a game worthy of this great character.
