Word from the Japanese press is that MS Japan plans to make a big announcement today around 4. It seems as though they will be announcing that WindWalker Studios (founded by the creator of Final Fantasy) will be joining MS to develop for Xbox 2. Pay attention to the internet for more information as it develops.

This is all but confirmed now... A certain Xbox website has confirmed they will post the announcement at 1pm pst/4pm est

I'll see what I can do about finding more out on this - but being that it's from IGN/TXB, I'll end up being too late. Dam I hate not having my spot under the table...

If so that is probably one of the best things I have heard about Xbox 2. Gives me a reason to look at it again, and less of a reason to lean towards the PS3.

I don't think this means Final Fantasy, Square Enix own Final Fantasy. However this means an all new original idea from the man who created Final Fantasy.

Awesome news. I've said it a million times, the Xbox needs a wider variety of RPGs. Too bad it'll be years before these see the light of day.

Yep this is awesome news for RPG gamers....

Plus, the Final Fantasy games were better when Sakaguchi-san was at Square. :)

Game Informer has a good interview with Peter Moore about the Mistwalker news on their website. The two games are already in development.

This is a little insight of things to come on the upcoming RPG's for our beloved Next Xbox...

Final Fantasy father Hironobu Sakaguchi has apparently demonstrated an Xbox 2 game to Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain and one of the most respected names in the Japanese videogame scene. Hamamura had nothing but wonderful things to say about the next-generation game console, as he watched footage from "Mistwalker".

"It's such a realistic video that with just one look you'll know that you're looking at a next-generation system. It's something that cannot be realized on today's machines."

Hamamura spoke of "a camera outside the Earth's atmosphere approach a forest on the Earth's surface, then show leaves on a tree one at a time." Whether this was a taste of what he saw in the Xbox 2 Mistwalker footage is unclear. But it seems clear that XBox 2 is going to be a force to be reckoned with.
