3 Red Lights of Doom

I know there is thread similar to this, but I was looking for specifics. I would like to get a feel for how often this really happens. I have had my 360 for 14 months before I go the three red lights. MS is sending me a box to send in for repair. Cost me $140, but I will get a full year warrenty. They also told me if they could not fix, I would get a new 360 and not a reburbished. Time will tell.

If anyone has had this problem, or knows somebody that did, I was wondering:
1. How long did you own your 360?
2. Was your 360 kept in a completely open area? (Mine was not)
3. If you got it repaired, did it work fine?

I guess this is not as big a problem as I thought, as this thread is dead.

MS sent me a reburished 360, even though they said they wouldn't. I'm not complaining, however, because so far it is working great. And they did give me another year warranty.

Same thing happened to me 2 months ago

Yuppers had mine for almost 2 years. It broke down 2.5 weeks ago and was under warranty
with best buy and its now on its way back and going to be REPLACED! Oh yeah FTW

3. If you got it repaired, did it work fine? Did not have it repaired. Bought new.

all of my friends have had their xbox break atleast once, some have broken withing 3 months, the others within 16 months. but it is definitely not uncommon
