Fallout 3 highest rated game this year

reviews went live last night, and its kickin' post-apocalytic wind. The only game that might contend with it this year is gears 2. Seeing as how gaming news sites have been rating really hard lately (fable 2, far cry 2, dead space...none of these reaches into the 9.0 and above area on ign and were great games IMHO), it would be interesting to see how the number one contender fares against fallout 3.

Come nov. 7th i guess we should be so lucky to be receiving both these games on the 360. Still, im wondering which passion project will be the best received.

the review does pique my curiosity on the level of gore and violence the game has. I mean, we were all chain sawing people to pieces about 2 years ago, is it honestly worse than something like that? Ive now read from multiple sources that the game makes you do things that are actually hard to stomach...well it doesn't MAKE you do them, but the option is there. Can't wait to be knee deep in radiated water this weekend to see if the game holds up to the stellar reviews (unlike gta4...IMHO):cheers:

it says on the ad that OXM gave it a 10/10, and i read in another thread that gears 2 got a 9/10 from euro OXM...gonna be close....

This is my absolute GOTY, followed by Dead Space.

Fallout 3 is everything I hoped it would be and more. Kick ass game, great presentation, and literally smashes all competition. I think GoW2 will most get GOTY because it's the 360's number one son, but Fallout 3 deserves it IMHO.

Overall, the Metacritic score (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/xbox360/fallout3) is 93, which puts it in the top 10 reviewed Xbox titles. Not too shabby.

Yeah, I cant wait to play this!!! I have been waiting for this all year and hope to get it within the next week or so. I have heard nothing but good things about it so far.

wow... ya, this game really didnt excite me as much as i thought it would.:D now the game is still good, but its just to closely related to oblivion. i feel like im playing the same game but now instead of bows theirs a gun. maybe ill have to play more of it to really grasp the ubernacity of this game. but i still think dead space is #1 (at least in my little world.)

its a good game, but its not fallout. Its more like Oblivion in a post-apocolyptic world. Bethseda should fire whoever writes the dialogue... seriously, whoever wrote this stuff should never work in the industry again. Not to mention, early on, me and my little pistol were able to take on 3 thugs who were armed to the teeth with rifles and assault rifles.

Bethseda should fire whoever writes the dialogue... seriously, whoever wrote this stuff should never work in the industry again. Not to mention, early on, me and my little pistol were able to take on 3 thugs who were armed to the teeth with rifles and assault rifles.

ima have to disagree with you there, nurb (which is weird, i don't think i have ever done that). Now I'm only about 8 hours in, but i think the writing is superb, especially considering the genre its set in. The characters are interesting, and i would have to say so is their diologue. So far i have already met some really memorable characters (moriarty the no-holds-bared gang-leader like business man, nova the "oo i think she like me" whore, and the up-beat about assistants dying, sarah palin esque "survival guide" auther, just to name a few).

the games characters animation is pretty bad, so i think the writing is the only thing perpetuating the story, and its a pretty good story. Of course this is IMHO.

I may get flamed for saying this, but I highly believe that Gears2 will NOT be a contender for game of the year.

GTAIV vs. Fallout 3 vs. MGS4 vs. Little Big Planet vs. Super Smash Bros.

The only possibility that I see is Fallout 3 being replaced by Gears for the sake of having a exclusive 360 rep. Although that would be wrong, because Fallout 3 is an amazing game. I'm so addicted to this and the hype was all worth it (unlike Fable 2)

I still say the writing is horrible, but not as bad as oblivion's. I pay more attention to voice acting I guess, and poor dialogue bugs me more than it does others. It all seems forced. I remember one line in FO1, when you speak to a kid giving out flowers outside the Children of the Cathedral establishment. If you refuse to take the flower he would tell you that you're no fun, to which you could reply:

"Kid you're too young to realize how much fun I can be."

weapons can be a tad frustrating as well considering they all seem equally effective regardless of size or ammo size. Such as the flamer, I thought it would be great, but torching baddies isn't as satisfying when you realize you take more damage using a flame thrower on them than with firearms because they still attack you while they are on fire and you are at a range disadvantage, and using the minigun is less than satisfying as well. I dunno if its me, but I eat up 100+ rounds on the minigun to drop a super mutant but about 10 shells from my shotgun give or take. The accuracy is a puzzle too, I can hit some guy from a mile away but miss him when standing in front of me. I'm nitpicking here, but its still a bit of an issue. I dunno if its my skillpoints or what.
