Rumours on new titles being announced in March
A new Killer Instinct rumoured for the umpteenth time
With all the previously known projects from Rare already in stores, and 4J Studios’ remake of Tooie coming in a couple of months (http://mundorare.com/news/2009/01/banjo-tooie-xbla-will-have-the-original-stop-n-swop/), Rare fans will now have to wait until the company decides to reveal their next title. From experience, this could be either in a major event, or any random week. But, in both cases, rumours usually precede the event.
This could (or could not) be the case with one of the latest gossips around the Net about Microsoft preparing an imminent announcement of “two new IPs by Q1 2009.” Rumour has it that Microsoft “has at least two new properties that have been in development for quite sometime,” according to V for Videogames (V4VG) (http://v4vg.com/rumor-microsoft-to-announce-two-new-ip%E2%80%99s-by-q1-2009/).
This website even quotes an anonymous Microsoft spokesperson who dares to state the following: “We’ve always focused our attention in the year of operation concerned, I would safely say that our community will see atleast two new games being announced exclusive to the Xbox 360 console by the end of Q1 2009″. V4VG itself also adds that “one might actually be an online fighter based on a very popular franchise,” while “the other is an action adventure game from one of their internal studios.”
Killer Instinct probably was the first thing that popped in your mind. And while there are reasons to be skeptic about a KI3, both Microsoft (http://mundorare.com/news/2008/08/perfect-dark-and-killer-instinct-coming-to-xbla/) and Rare (http://mundorare.com/news/2008/11/if-we-could-bring-back-one-game-it-would-be-killer-instinct-arcade/) have already expressed their interest on bringing back the classic fighter to XBLA.

Still, we must admit that this sounds a bit confusing, since “a very popular franchise” is not what we could exactly consider a “new IP.” Moreover, the souce itself hasn’t been proven to be any trustworthy on this matter before, and those two titles would not necessarily have to come from Rare. But we wanted to bring this to your attention since, with the Nintendo DS out of sight (http://mundorare.com/news/2009/02/rare-not-developing-new-ds-titles-at-present/), sooner or later Rare will have to unveil which their next big project is. Place your bets!
