Since consoles are a different beast and appeal to, I guess what you'd call a "subset" of the Faceplate collectors, I've been asked to create a thread for Custom, Collectors Edition and Limited edition consoles.

If you see a unique console or console case, you're welcome to provide a link directly to the auction, or to wherever you spotted the console (like a news article).

Keep in mind, if you're going to buy a custom case and put it on a working console, that goes into the realm of "modding" and any discussions about the actual act of modding are forbidden here at Xbox Addict. We do not encourage anyone to modify their actual console in any way that would void the Microsoft warranty, which includes opening the machine. It also presents a potential physical and/or electrical hazard to the person who opens a box, and XBA will not leave themselves open to responsibility for such matters.

Lastly, please keep discussions to the Xbox and Xbox 360 only. I know there are a ton of cool DS's and PS2's, but that's for another forum. :)

What happened to me was worse. I bought a Simpsons Xbox from this seller "canusplay_eshop" and he said he could hold it for me until I return to the country. Period for filing has long passed. We exchanged emails for a bit but now I could not find him. He does not reply to emails or ebay messages. I now have $1200 out of my pocket:cuss:

I bought my console opening day, waited in line for it at my local walmart and everything. Console first got RROD within 7 or 8 months, but ya know they gave me a new one and a full years warranty on it.Not 6 months later RROD again, then 3 months, then 2 DOA, and so on until i hit the magic number of 12 or 13 now.I cant remember it been so many Recently they changed things and are only giving 90 days on "Recertified Consoles".

Now i have a fresh console on return and im fed up because this is far too much trouble and i want to know if i should just repair it myself and basically experiment on it or should I keep using them so much that i burn them out within 90 days? Not intentionally just appears repairs made by them are getting worse

Any thoughts?

This isn't really the right place for this, as it's a thread for limited edition collectible consoles, and not really hardware issues, but I'll give it a shot.

If you believe that is a better solution available to you than the one offered by Microsoft, it's entirely up to you if you take it. I am in a similar situation. I have four 360's. Each one has gone bad once and been repaired. Two of them now have disc issues and are both out of warranty. Do I fork out the $100 each and have MS repair them, or find someone local? Once someone besides MS opens those consoles, MS will NEVER touch them again.

In the case of the red light issue, MS repair centers have a certain protocol to follow for what is considered "acceptable repair procedures" where a local repair place might be able to go beyond that. In other words, MS might do one thing that fixes that "loose chip" issue that works most of the time, where a local guy might cost a bit more, but be able to guarantee that sucker is never coming off of there again. See what I mean?

Also, I know these things have issues that have nothing to do with your treatment of the console, but when I hear stories of people on their 12th unit, I have to wonder if you're giving it proper ventilation (on the sides AND the back), have it sitting on a fabric base, like carpet or a shelf dust cover.... anything that might contribute to overheating.

I will end with a simple suggestion. Go to WalMart and get some of those 1/2" rubber feet with the adhesive back, and put them under your console to give it some extra clearance. You're out two bucks and it could minimize these problems you're having. I know, it's an inherent design problem and not your fault, but that doesn't mean you can't take steps to minimize the effects of THEIR design problem.

I had one of those GTA 4 Elite unnumbered consoles but it died MS replaced it with a Elite. Only good thing is it frees up the faceplate to send off to Spaceghost. So beware if your special console does its RRoD or other death rattle thing you only get an unmarked clone back.

You really should have raised holy hell about that. They should have at the VERY least, returned the case to you.

I won the GTA 4 box from MS so I am not out anything as I got it for nothing and I got a new Elite as a replacement for the dead one. I think it is a feature of the warranty that they may fix or replace, they went with the replacement. Not a collector of these things so if it works thats good enough. Just had to share the warning if these thing matter to you. It would really suck if your favorite collectable was trashed and you got a new unremakable clone back. I think this may happen with any colored(red) or special box.

Yup. I'm convinced. After I got my US Launch Team console back missing the green end panels (they did show up in the mail the following day, after I had a heart attack), I would never send them anything to repair except a plain-jane, off the shelf console.

Those were made for their business partners (the names on the consoles). They aren't prizes and aren't for sale. They just exist.

There's another Castle Crashers one. That one was made by MS for Behemoth. Behemoth made one that they gave away as a prize. I'm trying to get pics of it. I'm also trying to get them to let us make Castle Crasher and Alien Hominid plates. :D

I was talking to someone from EA who said he knew about the two NCAA plates but hasn't heard anything about there being Madden or Tiger plates this year. I've never seen a Tiger plate, but it would be weird not having a Madden 10 plate.

Looks like colorware has made a Darksiders console. The faceplate is numbered and looks like it will be limited to 10 consoles.

Right click the page and select "Save Page As." Then there are three options. One saves the entire page with all the pictures (Web Page, Complete) second just saves the HTML file with no pictures (Web Page, HTML Only) and the last just saves the text on the page.

I started saving web pages this year but they date back to mid December, BUT I only started saving complete web pages about maybe 2 or 3 months ago.

Oh and if anyone cares, I know the Ebay IDs of a few of the big Xbox collectors on Ebay. There are three main collectors that bid on almost everyone.

As far as the other two, I have asked one (i***7/9***1) for pictures and he/she just said "none now, maybe later," and that was a while ago. I should ask again. He/she was the one who won the Mass Effect 2, ACDC, Shakira and lots of others.

I bought my Launch Console outside of Ebay. It was on Ebay and went without any bids, so I contacted the seller outside of Ebay and offered to buy it at the starting Ebay price and he accepted. Plus without Ebay he didn't have to fork over any money for the selling fees.

I would love to pics of the big Xbox collector in California. He or she buys everything, not just consoles. His or her house must be filled.

BTW, just for anyone who might know. Who asks Colorware to create SE consoles to promote games? MS or the game developer? And do they need permission from MS to create it in the first place and then give it away?

I know MS is the one that puts the contest on Xbox Live but for contest outside of Xbox Live, such as the 300 SE Xbox 360s for the movie. Would they need MS permission?
