Palace of Vivec

I recently was able to go in there. I disarmed the trap and I picked the locked with a Master's Lockpick (and a Security skill of 57). I went in and there was this freaky mortal guy, whose name was Vivec. He is supposed to be the mortal god form of Lord Vivec or somthing. I looked aroud, but I couldn't talk to him, because he didn't want to and I did not attempt to attack him. But what is the big deal with the palace, apart from the Puzzle Canal?
