Alright, fill me in guys....

Alright I admit my videogaming has been at an all-time low lately and I haven't been keeping up with ANYTHING in the videogame industry. But seeing as the new Xbox is coming out, it may revive my younger days of spending hours playing games. But since I've pretty much been living under a rock...I know nothing about the system. I know I could probably find out everything I need to know about the system by just looking it up, and you guys have probably had hundreds of 360 discussions but I just wanna know some stuff about it.

Specifically:
Is it backwards compatible?
Does it have a hard drive like the Xbox?
What are the LAUNCH games to look for?

Well yeah, but I'm confused about the whole deal....everyone's talking about hard drives and it not having hard drives....and two different Xbox's?
