Krylon Fusion is what i would recommend for controllers. It bonds great with plastic. Then any Clear Coat, Read to make sure it says used for plastic on the back. Use several coats and it should be simple. + Welcome!

newbie with something to add
Hey Asylum! I'm a newbie on the site but not to Xbox. I have done some controllers and like some others have said, with proper painting and clear coat, the paint holds up really well.
