Interplay switches to VUIP
MCV is reporting that Interplay has kicked Titus to the curb as its US distributor. Since MCV has an unusual way of updating their site this article did not have a link to it just yet. So I give you a copy and paste of the article.
Interplay has bizarrely ditched Titus as its US distributor despite the fact that the French games giant increased its stakeholding in the company just last week. The veteran US publisher has appointed Vivendi Universal Interactive Publishing as its distributor in North America, although it appears that at present Titus will continue to handle the firms line-up in Europe. The move follows the announcement last week that the French games giant has now taken a controlling interest of 51.53 per cent in Interplay. It previously held a 34 per cent stake.
Titus has handled distribution for Interplay in the US and elsewhere for the past three years. Titus, however, has subsequently revealed that not distributing the Interplay range in the US will save the group some $10m annually.
Despite the recent announcements, Titus joint founder Eric Caen has confirmed to MCV that Interplay will retain its development and publishing autonomy within the group.
