MLG Announces First Major Event

Major League Gaming (MLG), the preeminent worldwide console gaming league for professional video game players, today announced that it will be holding its first major event on October 25-26, 2003. The event, which will offer $10,000 in cash and prizes, is to take place at GameTime Nation (located at 111 East 12th Street, New York, NY) and will feature the following games to be used for the tournament: Halo (Xbox™ platform) and Madden NFL 2004 (PlayStation® 2 Platform). The entry fee is $50 per person and players wishing to compete are encouraged to register online at www.mlgpro.com. The tournament will feature a massive free-for-all (every competitor for themselves) competition and 4 vs. 4 team event using the Halo title (special guests “The Dream Team” - Matt Leto "Zyos", Paul William Baffi "Shizz", Alex Burden "Alex", and Dustin Langton "-hp- Darkman" will be flying in to participate in a special team competition) and a head-to-head Madden NFL 2004 competition. Game types and points systems for official MLG rankings will be listed on the MLG website by September 15, 2003. "MLG is for real and the proof is that the best gamers in the country are coming to our first regional event in New York City to show the world what pro gaming is all about," said Michael Sepso, CEO, MLG. "If you are serious about your gaming and want to be a pro gamer, then being a part of the first MLG tournament is not only important, it’s essential!” MLG Tournament Info: MLG runs on an annual season, much like pro sports, with the first season beginning in the fall of 2003 and running through the summer of 2004. During this first season, MLG will have 10 events, three of them being “Majors” (think Wimbledon and the Indy 500). The “Major” tournaments will be held in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Other tournaments will be held in big cities around the country, strategically picked by MLG. The final event of the season will be the MLG Championships in Las Vegas (summer 2004). These 2-day events will combine hundreds of players, live music, gamer expos, game gear stores, and more. Dates for these events will be announced on the MLG website in December 2003. MLG Ranking System: For every event, every gamer that competes in each tournament receives a set “points-total” based on where they placed and the level of the event. Just like pro tennis, Majors are worth more than standard events.
