(RUMOR) - Xbox 360 Gets Dirt Cheap?
In a bid to steal Sony's thunder, Microsoft is rumored to be slashing the 360's price tag by almost US $100. A source close to Msoft tells Britxbox.co.uk that the the current chips are being redesigned to allow for this price drop, which would coincide with the PlayStation 3's launch. The insider says: A new version of the Xbox 360 would be cheaper to manufacture and debut about a year after launch. If they hit their targets, the Microsoft would be able to cut the costs of its console in the autumn of 2006. Microsoft would have the option of slashing the price of its console, just as rivals come out with their first consoles. That would put a lot of pressure on Sony and Nintendo. Such a price reduction would mean that the entry level Core System (currently US $299) could be cheaper than Wii's expected US $250 pricing and would totally low-ball Sony's diamond-encrusted PlayStation 3.Source: http://www.kotaku.com
