Call of Duty 4 Leads US February Software Sales

The NPD Group has released US data for the month of February showing total software sales of USD 668.7 million - a 47 per cent increase from the prior year.

Hardware sales also increased 19 per cent to USD 480 million.

Nintendo dominated hardware sales, selling 587,600 DS handhelds and 432,000 Wii consoles. The PlayStation 2 continued to outsell its successor, with 351,800 units sold.

The PlayStation 3 outsold the Xbox 360 for the second consecutive month - 280,800 to 254,600. Microsoft had previously stated that they expected the PS3 to outsell the Xbox 360 due to supply constraints.

The PSP, meanwhile, sold 243,100 units.

According to NPD data, the Xbox 360 has a US installed base of 9.6 million as compared to 8.1 million for the Wii and 3.8 million for the PS3.
