Xbox 360 Upgraded Memory Confirmed
Microsoft thinks they can pull a fast one on us, but they underestimate just how severely we lack a social life. Yesterday we ran a story where we speculated on whether or not Microsoft upgraded some of their Xbox 360 Jasper model consoles with 512MB of internal memory over the usual 256. The discovery was first brought to light by some eagle-eyed modders who discovered the additional memory boost, and in response Microsoft today confirmed that they have in fact upgraded some of their systems.
We contacted Microsoft for comment on the matter, heres what they had to say:
We can confirm that Xbox 360 Arcade now offers 512MB of internal memory. Xbox 360 Arcade consoles with 512MB of internal memory will be in markets worldwide. We want to offer consumers a bit more memory at the same low price so they can enjoy more experiences on Xbox LIVE.
The upgrade is undoubtedly a move to have more localized data capacity for current and forthcoming Xbox 360 features, but, on the other hand, the last time the console got an onboard memory upgrade it was in support of the New Xbox Experience from November.
