Natal To Launch At $50
Michael Pachter, analyst at Wedbush Morgan Securities, has gone on record and said that Microsoft will charge consumers $50 for its Project Natal.
Speaking in his regular internet TV spot, Pachter said that rumours of Microsoft charging a lot for peripherals comes because of the pricing we’ve seen in the past with the Wi-Fi and the extra 360 hard drive.
“My guess is on Natal, which is really important to them, is they’re going to price it at or below their cost. So I think it’s hard for us to envision that it’s going to cost them $150 to make Natal. You’re really talking about software, which is an easy thing for them to distribute and a camera.”
Pachter continued, “I know people say this isn’t just a webcam; it’s essentially a three-lens camera that does cool things... talking to my hardware, specialist colleagues at Wedbush, it’s about $50 in cost. Now I maybe wrong and I’m sure we’re going to get flamed by 13 year olds with PHDs in engineering who know a lot more about hardware than we do, who maybe say it’ll be about $70 but I’d be very surprised if it was more than $79 and I really think it’s going to be $50.
“They’re not trying to make money on the device, they’re trying to make everybody have the device so they can sell us other things, eventually a lot more Xbox 360s.
“My call is $50. I think that’s where it’s going to be launched.”
