Captain America Pinball FX2 Table

by Brent Roberts

Zen Studio's seems to have a flair for not only incorporating some of our most favorite comic book  characters in blinding glory, but now with the release of Captain America to their roster of pinball tables, we get to don the infamous star shield in an attempt to save the world, pinball style.  Are you ready to follow your Captain?

At first glance the table itself is done up with bright vivid colors and a few 3D modeled characters of the Red Skull, Zemo, and of course Captain America himself.  The timeline of this table is set back in the World War II days and involves Captain America and his Howling Commandos trying to complete multiple missions in an attempt to save the world from multiple styles of attacks and villains.  While there are more modern versions of Captain America, Zen Studio's choice to stick with the World War II version adds a massive jolt of nostalgia to true Captain America fans.  Some of the many missions you will have to overcome involve destroying Zemo's Adhesive-X canisters which are big green pools of toxic sludge that seem to bring your ball to an almost grinding halt if caught in them.  One of my personal favorite missions though is when you challenge the Red Skull himself to a battle.  When this happens the 3D model of the Red Skull steps over the board and the fight between Captain America and the Red Skull begins to unfold.  Speaking specifically of this battle it is up to you to try and control your shots because in the end, you decide the outcome.

While there are some lower level missions to contend with, we must point out that none of these missions are easy at all.  Some of the missions require you to hit pinpoint shots that would have Robin Hood himself saying "dam that's a nice shot" and some of the missions require you to maintain a consistency instead of just blindly shooting the ball around.  There will be times when you want to break your controller and scream obscenities as you seem to fail at making these impossible shots a reality.  There is however, a new addition to the table in the form of the Cosmic Cube that will provide not only guidance but assistance as well in trying to complete these multiple missions.  Thankfully it's also worth over a million points and can be obtained throughout every mission multiple times, so you're never left thinking "how the **** do I manage to get that one shot?"  Ultimately one of the greatest factors of this Captain America pinball table is that when you do complete missions you get a massive sense of accomplishment to go along with a huge score bonus.

The sounds of the Captain America table provide an instant smile as it almost seems to be voiced by the characters from the animated series which always adds a major plus to the title when done right.  The Red Skull has this raspy German accent while Zemo feels like he walked out of a Middle Eastern temple.  Captain America though speaks like a true hero in every word, and when all is said and done, the audio work done for this add-on is top notch.

Now with all of this combined with the fact that you get to knock some metal balls around while placing yourself in the shoes of one of the greatest comic book hero's ever written and all the while taking on his greatest adversaries and saving the world; this table is a must have not just for fans of Pinball FX2, but for Captain America fans as well.  Pricing of this table is 240 Microsoft Points and is more than a bargain for the hours upon hours of fun you will find in this latest addition to Pinball FX2.  Thank you Zen Studios for not only bringing us one of the most iconic comic book characters to life, but for doing justice to the character of Captain America.
