Stephen's E3 Wrap Up!
by Stephen CameronMy impressions on this year’s E3 – The Wrap up.
After a long honking plane ride, and landing in Toronto on my way back home to the boonies of Canada. I started thinking how E3 really was.
Let’s start from the beginning, as I boarded the plane on Monday to head down to Los Angeles, much to my surprise I saw the actor Eugene Levy, you know him from being that kid’s dad from American Pie sitting in first class, and when I landed I saw the kid from X-Men that plays “Iceman” (Shawn Ashmore). So, seeing two famous people in the space of a few hours was a good indication that I was nearing Tinsel town.
In any case, I made to Los Angeles in one piece. As I got off the plane I said to myself, “Ah man, here we go again! The flipping madness.” What did I mean? Folks, if you’ve never been to Los Angeles is a freaking zoo to put politely, it’s traffic 24/7, it never lets off. Part of the package I suppose.
I finally got to meet Tony for the first time, and the expected, “Hey, finally good to meet you in person.”. I’ve doing the XBA thing with him for over two and a half years and this was the first I met him face to face. Did I mention he snores like a chainsaw? But, it was nothing a good set of earplugs couldn’t fix.
We started off on Tuesday attending the Microsoft Press Briefing, as we were waiting for the presentation to start they displayed on the jumbo screen various gamertags (about 50 of them), in a funky scrolling and looping sequence, Tony leans over and says, “Dude, I just saw your tag go by!”…I immediately replied “Ya, right! What are the odds?” And sure enough it was there, “Kamshaft-Tomb Raider: Legend-Family”. I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t get on Xbox Live as much as I want to, with my 15 month old son, life and XboxAddict.com, all these things sure keeps a guy and his wife pretty busy.
After the excellent briefing from Microsoft, we all headed to the Standard Hotel across the street for a party Microsoft style! Free food, games, music. Did I mention the free food? When you reach my age, food first, then the games!
This year was quite interesting, Microsoft not only faired at having a killer press briefing with Bill Gates showing up, but they thru a community (fan sites and such) party for all us to say “Thanks for support guys”, they gave away prizes, once again free food, got to play the new upcoming 360 games without the crazy people hoggin the playable units. It was awesome. Thanks Microsoft, we needed that, some recognition from the big guys goes a long way. XboxAddict.com has been around for well over five years now, and that pat on the back sure was nice.
Tony and I really wanted to attend the Canadian Xbox Press party, but we were beat and super tired, us old guys are not as young as we used to be.
