    Smile Important news!! DEV xbox from retail xbox!!

    i was on xboxhacker.net, and i was lookin at the latest news. and i found a thing. it said that someone found a way to change a retail xbox to a dev xbox. but he hasnt released how yet. this means that anyone can play copied games without a modchip and run those home-brewed apps, etc.. heres the pics:

    That would be cool. Not just for worthless @$$ thevious pirates, but also for home devs. People who want to try to make home brewed games, this would really be a cool option.

    This just doesn't make any sense at all to me. I was under the impression that there were actual hardware differences between both.

    Yep, there are hardware differences between the both Some of the more prominent differences are the dev kits have 128Mb of RAM and a larger hard drive.

    yea, but maybe he just tricked the xbox into thinking it was a dev xbox.

    im sure you could have the same image on the hard drive. so long as there are no major harware differences its possible. in theory. however, i highly doubt that microsoft would leave a back door on a $300 machine that would turn it into a $10k machine (or whatever the dev kits cost).

    woa! that rulz! but its probly hard as crap to do. but you would need to buy a second xbox to do it or you would lose all your hardrive saves. but why dont they show a pic of the final product, why does it end at copying files indted of finished?

    I think I remember reading that DEV kits can't play retail games.

    they cant. thats why you would need 2 boxes. but where are u gunna get dev games at anyway? run down to the developer studios and steal it?

    no. the dev kits can played home-made games. so you could play cdrs on it and everything. so you could play copied games

    a dev kit or a debug kit? i would think the debug kit would be more logical
