Help with DTR!!!

I am at a boss with a crossbow. I think its the 8th or 9th chapter. I try to just flat out battle hit with rockets, shotties and even a carbine. But nothing seems to work. When he shoots my armor doesnt go down and I cant figure out how to kill this guy. Can someone give me some hints?

Go to top level and grab a guy as human shield, shoot the boss with crossbow whenever he shows himself (while staying on the top level), if he kills your human shield duck immediately and go into that narrow hallway another enemy will appear then grab him as human shield and repeat the process until boss is dead.
