Question Should I go Widescreen or Fullscreen?

Well I'm finally getting a job and what I want to do is buy a new big screen HDTV. But what should I go with widescreen or fullscreen?

I have a 52" fullscreen HDTV and prefer to play games on it over my friends 70" widescreen. Just my personal opinion though, guess I'm just used to gaming on fullscreens *shrug* (don't like the way FPS'ers look on widescreen).

Widescreen is the ONLY way to go. If you get a 4.3 (fullscreen) TV, you'll just be replacing it with a widescreen next year anyway.

Get a widescreen HDTV. More and more games are being enhanced for widescreen TVs. Just out of the games I own Rallisport, Moto GP, and NFL 2k3 all are widescreen enhanced. Plsu if you are going to be getting an HDTV you more than likely will be watching alot of DVDs, which is another huge reason you should get a widescreen. Nearly ALL movies are shot in a wide aspect ratio, not the 4:3 like most normal TVs.

The best thing about gaming on a widescreen is multiplayer split screen. Instead of a little strip of screen, each player gets a full aspect screen. Very nice.

No offense but that is just flat out dumb. Even if you set the 70" widescreen to a 4x3 ratio with grey bars on the side it would still be bigger (57.2") than the 4x3 52" tv. Then if you play a game capable of widescreen or 16x9 the image would be 115% larger on the widescreen tv versus the 4x3.

Go with the widescreen. Not only do games stretch very well (if they aren't widescreen enhanced) but you can enjoy more image viewing area with OAR (original aspect ratio) movies, ie widescreen for modern day movies. Just go to the link in my sig HDTV gaming 101 for a comparison of widescreen versus pan and scam (fullscreen).

Thanks. Also what about Burn in? Is it as bad as I hear using a videogame system on a big screen tv?

If you're worried about burn, then check out the Phillips Wide Screens. They all have the A.P.A.C. feature (Advanced Phosphor Aging Compensation). Acts like a screen saver for your t.v. by shifting the image in increments of 1-2 cm every, from what I've noticed, 10-15 minutes. This rocks. I bought the 60 "" and the pic is clear and sharp to all edges, supports 480i/p, 1080i.

As long as you don't crank up the contrast then pause a game and leave it on the screen for 30 minutes you'll be fine.

I was trying to steer people to widescreen back in '97 when I worked at Blockbuster, and I stick by that today. It's all about the widescreen... and the Tahiti blue Mini Cooper.

Whatever, listen, if you're thinking about the future of gaming, and actually the present. Go 16x9. Hell, you can always play in 4:3 format anytime you want, don't let those who don't know squat about HDTV influence your decision. Grab the future by the pants, and get in the ball game.

Excuse me, I am sorry, but 16:9 and a true widescreen TV are same, no? (Asking) Look I have a 36 SONY WEGA flat Screen HDTV that I can "Force" into 16:9. I also have a widescreen display that I can shrink to 4:3. I prefer widescreen because of that fact. HDTV is the future in my opinion.. Widescreen is the format every DVD comes in now adays.. just talking but remember research it yourself never let anyone decide. One thing I prefer though is a REAL screen not a Projection.. Happy hunting..
